Awesome start of the series. Although I do wish to add a few things. The Parliament of the United Provinces was called the Staten-Generaal and was elected by the provinces as a federal parliament. The United Provinces did not really have a Head of State, the Stadtholder was Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, but they never enjoyed dejure political power. Lastly, the Raadpensionaris van Holland, the leader of the Holland province, the richest and most important province usually had a lot of power in the States-General, since Holland was so rich and powerful.

Just some extra information :)! The WIC was founded in 1621, but in 1623 there was enough money to start the company truly. Also in 1675 it was re-established. Amsterdam was never the capital, in fact there never truly was one. The government (Dutch: Staten-Generaal van de Nederlanden) was (and still is) seated in The Hague (Dutch: Den Haag). The VOC had it's own headquarters on Java called 'Batavia'.

Devin, here are some tips for the naval battle: if the continue buttonis still here, it mean that there is still ship that not have surrendered but just rout. a surrendered ship is an automaticly captured ship which mean money (you sell them if you don't take them in your fleet) or free ship (if you exept the reparation cost). In order to make the surrender easier, some shrapnel shot at close range make the job. Here is it, I hope it will help you in your campaign Stadtholder!

Seems like I have arrived late to the Party. Never saw a ETW lets play like this. This is absolutely fantastic! I love History so much and to have someone actually role play as it is History being written is awesome. I am 100% subscribing to your channel. I only hope I find a US War of Independence Narritive Lets Play also. If you do ever consider doing one, I am British, but I can do a fair few different American accents. Anyway, this is a lovely way to play a game I have loved so much despite it's short comings on launch, ETW and NTW are the periods of History I love the most. Keep up the good work!

King Willem of Great Britain was actually a royal Dutch. He was indeed king of GB and Stadhouder within the Netherlands. But in the video it sounds as if he was the king to begin with, and gained control over the Netherlands, while it is the other way around: he was Dutch and gained the British crown by marrying Mary (I believe her name was)

Very nice video as always. I always cancel my alliance with austria on turn 1 because they're the whipping boys at the start, and you can get trade agreements with martha and new spain (before spain enters the war) i think 1 other too (ottomans) and they will pay quite a bit to you for the privalidge, also persia, mugals and some others you have to pay around 150-250 to them for trade, all worth it in the long run. i know you've past that stage already but might come in handy for later, martha should still offer quite a chunk but they will eventually come after you so be prepared...

accually pike regiments are good with dealing with melee infantry especally with the middle east and india units that have sword troops the pikes are one of the few if not the only european answer to them in pure melee.

It doesn't seem like cannons do enough damage to ships. I mean, you have 20 cannons firing at a wooden boat. The ship would be sinking, the crew dying, cannons and debris flying everywhere, just utter chaos. In empire, it's like " You're shooting us? Good luck with that."

Great work here! My one complaint is that I think that any HUD elements that can be turned off should be, it really detracts for me and I assume for others as well. We can tell what's going on without floating flags and all that stuff. Keep it up!
