Yes, the concerto was originally written for classical guitar and arranged for harp by Rodrigo at the request of harpist Nicanor Zabaleta in 1974.

This arrangement for harp is amazing! It sounds like if it had been composed for the harp. The disadvantage of a harp is that it cannot vibrate notes like the guitar, but overall the harp here fills the phrases better. I stay with the harp version.

@@realnigga19 I'm very proud of my broken English. Still, I rephrased my comment ever so slightly, but hopefully enough so that even you can make sense of it.

David, if I am not mistaken, the part you are referring to is called _rasgueado_ on a guitar, which is not possible on a harp, for various reasons. There frequently is a need to adapt music for different instruments, as I'm sure you know. Ps: your English is absolutely fine.

Shyir Thanks for you comment, Shyir! You’re referring to “rasgueo”, which l believe can be played on the harp, although I’m no sure that’s how this passage is supposed to be played. If you check my first comment, there’s a link to another video in which the player executes this passage perfectly. It’s basically two chords in a sequence. I think Xavier simply forgot what he was supposed to play, and you can see in his eyes he’s perfectly aware that he’s playing it wrong. He’s a great player, though. I never meant otherwise. These things happen. :-)

This is great and he's a great player + great orchestra. But. It just can't deliver what classical guitar does, the passion, the dynamics, the vast variety of tone, the force and fragility together. Thanks for the upload, enjoyed!
@waterkingdavid5 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking how this adds another dimension! Not seeking to be contrary but I feel happy to think of it in this way. I realize you said it was great but your still wanted to rank it. Is it necessary? All good things. Just so utterly moved by every version heard.
@ytusersumone5 жыл бұрын
My sentiment was that it brings good variety. What I was thinking was kind of technicality vs. technicality and emotion (which includes certain affecting frequencies). If I'd have to choose only one instrument to listen to in my whole life, it would be the harp because it is the most soothing instrument for the soul. But the guitar is and instrument of the whole pallet of emotions and this specifical classical piece is one of great _emotions and the changes between them_. That is why the harp can't fully deliver no matter how technical the player is. It is vice versa also in many pieces the guitar can't do the job closely as well as the harp. To put it most simply, there is a reason Judas Priest doesn't have two flute players and Andreas Vollenweider doesn't arrange his music to be played with flying V's&Marshall stacks. Concierto de Aranjuez is the most important classical work for me personally. What happened when I first heard it on my own was most deeply transforming on an emotional level. The impact was very important, a milestone. It made "my inner domino tiles" fall just right. The guitarist was perfect. He didn't rush or do anything just for the show off. It was pure feel, the timing and the nuances were extraordinarily exquisit. I cannot explain it, because it cannot be fully explained in short. I'm a self learnt guitarist by the way but that doesn't make me biased on the subject. Hadn't my family been poor, I probablt would have chose to become a harpist. All the best to you. Cheers.

This is not the best of Xavier. I must prefer the performance by Nancy Allen! Even mine!!! Sorry to say…..I have always liked him very much,but…..this is not his piece. 🌹
