Lyrics & Music - Emory S. Peck (1940)
Key - Eb Major
Tempo - 82 bpm
Please enjoy these simple recordings and feel free to give suggestions and requests! Thumbs up?... What did you like? Thumbs down?... What can I change for you?
Would you like to request hymns for this channel? Feel free to do that in the comment sections of these videos. Here's the guidelines for that:
1.) Limit 2 per person (feel free to request 2 more when yours are posted)
2.) Only public domain hymns (Pre-1923)
3.) Include author/composer and date of composition
4.) Be patient. This is one of many hobbies of mine and not a full time job. It may take a few weeks to a couple years to get yours done.
Keep in mind that the main purpose of these videos is to help folks learn harmony parts to hymns and not to sound perfect. These recordings will sound a touch raw for a few reasons; I am not a trained singer, I am using very simple recording hardware, my recording 'studio' is a spare closet that is just big enough for me to fit in. ( :
If you enjoy the way that these hymns are sang and want to experience them in person, stop by just about any church of Christ and they'll likely be singing them the same way. Without instruments.
My recording process:
-Record each part on a Rode NT1-A on to a Zoom H4 recorder
-Some pitch correction in Melodyne
-Mix in Mixcraft 6
-Combine audio and sheet music in Corel VideoStudio X7
-Music is typeset in Finale 2012 by me or borrowed from PDHymns.com
-Gear can be found here: www.zzounds.com...
To my knowledge, most of the hymns that I record and post are public domain (except the ones I've obtained permission for). If you notice one that is NOT public domain, let me know as soon as possible so that I can take that video down.

This is one of my favorites I learned in church as a kid. Hearing the high, low, and inbetween singers blend. It's beautiful. Singing has always been like medicine to me. I hope to remind others of the light with it and in doing so remind them of their own light.

I would love if you could do one of these four part Acapella renditions of "we're marching to Zion" - sometimes refered to by the first line, "come ye that love the Lord" - words by Issac Watts and music by Robert Lowry. I sang it growing up in the church of Christ, and I haven't found it among your other pieces. I am tremendous fan of your work!

Always interesting to see the music for known songs followed precisely. Not sure about anyone else, but on the second line of each of the verse slides, my congregation dots the first eight note and 16ths the second, enhancing the rag feel of this song :) e.g. In the first verse "All" is a dotted eighth, and "the" is a 16th. And I think we do it with "whole" and "day" also, but that involves ignoring that note change as well. Thanks again! :D

I'm planning on leading this song soon, so I was practicing it earlier. I realized something...we don't sing this one close to what is written for the chorus! I looked at it, thought "there's no way I'm singing a G there." But it felt normal. Same with the endings. We don't usually drop down to the ti, usually I would guess a mi going straight down from sol. Listened to this video. I could not get it right to save my life. Just did not feel right at all. Same with When We All Get to Heaven, in the chorus there, it's supposed to be G, C, E, C, C. But we always want to do C, D, E, D, C. I find that one a lot easier. Just funny how so many we don't really do like it's supposed to.

@@acappellahymns Right! It's definitely interesting to learn and figure out how it's actually intended to be sung. But there are some, like Our God He is Alive, this one, where it's so ingrained and they sing it with such vigor, that there's no chance you'll get them over to how it actually is unless you got them in a class or chorus type setting and taught them. I'm not even going to attempt to do it "right." It's for a singing night at a different congregation, so it would definitely be best for them to just do it how we know it. Would take quite a long time to unlearn haha. I actually led Our God He is Alive last time I was there. Tried to do part of the "correct" way, but the were so loud, me doing it messed myself up, so I switched back haha.
