1) open your mouth wide enough when singing 2) drink water during practice 3) don't overdo twiddling bits 4) sing with breath support 5) sing within your vocal range

I'm a keyboardist, not a singer. But jazz tutors tell you to pre-hear the melody in the mind and then sing sing it. Trouble is everything is too high. So my thanks for Hack #5. I never thought of transposing to my vocal range. After many scratchy attempts, it turns out to be the A scale below middle C. I have to say I sound like I can sing after all. Thanks Nicola - I enjoy the way you get to the point in your videos.

"Hey, I'm a jazz singer and that's what we do." Oh, yeah! Thanks for the great tips; you're terrific. I've bought some of your exercise materials, but have been too busy to get into them (I'm also a trumpet player). Belated Merry Christmas!

Wow, you have a BEAUTIFUL voice! Just lovely. Thank you for this and I am so glad to learn that people have a certain range and key and can't sing everything well. I always struggled with things too low or high and thought there was some way to learn how to do it, but I guess practicing in my range makes more sense. Thanks! God bless.

VERY helpful vid. Okay, here's a question about my "magical" one-active range: just about every song is going to have notes outside that range, whether high or low. How do you decide how to handle these? As a male singer I actually find the lower notes more challenging (I'm no Johnny Hartman or Bill Eckstine) but going high is also a problem; sometimes my upper register sounds good, sometimes it doesn't. Any advice appreciated (this might be worth another vid). thanks for all your generosity and hard work.
@NicolaMilan4 жыл бұрын
You'd be surprised at how many songs actually sit within an octave vocal range, however yes, you are likely to get a few notes either side that are outside the Magic Range. Its not a problem though because if you're singing in your preferred key then those notes are going to sound fine. Its only when you try to sing way too high or low that your notes will suffer.

Hello , I have been singing but never with proper knowledge. i have done all sorts wrong things in singing for years cos i had knowledge. I found your channel and i love your voice and the way you sing 💗🌷. I want to sing like that someday . I wish to. Here in my place , its hard to find a vocal coach so ive been watching youtube videos and learning. But im confused as to where should i start from ? What should I practice first ? What should i develop first and after that? I'd be really thankful if you could help me answer my questions. Im quite confused. 😣 But i really wanna learn singing without destroying my voice. Also i watched your tutorial channel but again i donot know where to start and the next ?

Two things: 1) If you were playing in a club or a bar, they would need a crowbar to get me to leave. You are as beautiful as your voice--and that's saying a lot. I could listen to your voice forever. 2). I believe I recognize your keyboard as a Roland RD800. I own one and love it--I hope you do too. Thanks for all your effort. I dont know if it can get me to sing in our band--but I might try.

I get so upset since becoming chronically ill. My singing voice has really deteriorated, mostly due to reflux and very strong pain meds which dehydrate all my vocal folds. My range is shot, and my vocals are hoarse and unpredictable. No matter how much I drink, I can't stay hydrated.
@NicolaMilan11 ай бұрын
Ah sweetie I understand. My voice also deteriorated badly when I got diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. It took getting on the right medication to help and even now I notice the difference. I have to work harder now to maintain my vocal strength too. You’ll get there. Just keep going and be gentle with yourself. Xxxxx big hugs.

I’m not a singer. I always say I couldn’t sing well enough for 5th grade tryouts. It crushed me. I’ve always wanted to sing. Now at 69 your telling me anyone can learn to sing? Just singing in church, regular singing?
