Big band music is hard to replicate on one instrument, but in my own arrangement, I've tried to capture the drums, horns and rhythm section of big band song "Sing, Sing, Sing" by the incomparable Benny Goodman on my Randy Wood mandolin.
Hope you'll enjoy this classic instrumental song.

Absolutely amazing:)) You've definitely captured it all (incl Gene Krupa's percussion:)) You've got a special talent, not just w/ your wonderful musical skills, but the true joy you exude while playing:)) With your eclectic cross-overs in musical genre's, hope you cross paths w/ Sara Watkins someday (what Alison Krauss brought to mainstream, & Sara took in added directions, I feel you'll take in even more, each of you in your unique ways:)) Best wishes on your musical journey:))

Beautiful playing and great arrangement! Orlan Crawford recommended I check you out and I'm really glad I did. Randy Wood from Nashville in the early 1970's? He replaced a bridge on my '61 Martin in 1974. I wondered who made that mandolin - I've never seen an F-model quite like it. I wish you all the best in your musical endeavors.

@@MicahlanBoney You're such a warm and welcoming class act, just like they say... Careful - combined with your "natural gift" talent, that endearing attitude of grace towards "random" commenters might someday ensure that you get offered a generous multi-gig deal for a large Midwest weeklong event in December of 2021, to perform variously as solo, with Chris Thile, with Sierra Hull, with Nancy Wilson of Heart, possibly with Heart on 1-2 of their songs if they so choose for their show, likewise as "session performer" advised and encouraged with Willie in his similar separate show, presuming he's still kicking around by then, and very most probably joining two or three acoustic 45min duet/trio shows with some of the most gifted "classical crossover" musicians from around the world. What a loss recently with Charlie Daniels' passing, cuz that was possibly another 1-2 songs you would've needed to eventually start practicing for, but alas, with that Charlie/Tanya show now modified to a Dolly/Tanya show (since we also lost Kenny Rogers in January), we don't think it likely that you'd join that revised show, but who knows at this point. Yep, some "random" commenter might actually turn out to be more than just a fan of good music, possibly even someone who had already prior decided to do much more than just make your day with a mere encouraging comment, and who figures this comment thread is now deep enough so as likely not to be noticed by the general public until after such an event is officially announced during next New Year's Day weekend. I mean, you just never know how far an act of basic kindness might take you... In any case, you should plan to watch your gmail address closely around 45-60 days from now, more or less. Have another good day. God bless. Expand your published mandolin genre coverage videos in the meantime, some random commenter with particularly relevant foreknowledge might suggest.

@MicahlanBoney
@MicahlanBoney 4 жыл бұрын
I have been playing for a while, since when I was a kid. I started on a very inexpensive mandolin that would not stay in tune which was hard with 8 strings. I have worked my way up to a custom Randy Wood mandolin. I encourage you to contact his shop as he carries inexpensive models as well as builds custom. I wish I had known about him when I was beginning, it would have saved a lot of time and frustration. I would have bought a better first instrument. I'm not saying it's smart to buy an expensive model when beginning, but I had a very cheaply made mandolin for my first. It sounded awful too. But I didn't know any better. LOL When first starting out, I encourage you to set a goal of sticking with the instrument and dedicated practice for 2 years. You will be surprised how far you'll progress in 2 years. Good luck and best wishes to you.

@@MicahlanBoney ... Way beyond justice! ;-) I've been "just starting" on the mandolin since 1978 without much serious dedication or focus, complicated by crushing my right hand a few years ago so that I can't hold a normal pick. But the music goes on, not a "high lonesome sound," but more "slow, low, lonesome sound." Have you listened to Charlie Byrd's long guitar pieces, like "Fantasia on Which Side Are You On"? If not, that one is somewhere here on KZbin.
