Native Texan here: The six flags that the eponymous theme park gets its name from are the respective flags of the governments that claimed sovereignty over the area we now call Texas since it’s inception. In order of first adoption they are the flags of Spain, France (some of the settlers from Louisiana mutinied and tried to set up shop in Galveston - it did NOT go well), Mexico, the Republic of Texas (this is the iconic Lone Star flag), the United States of America, and the Confederacy. Some fun facts: The flags of Spain and France at one point flew over different parts of the region at the same time, and the U.S. flag is the only one of the six to have been discarded from use and later readopted. They make us take Texas History in the 4th and 7th grades - I had to use that information somehow.
