One key distinction between the military police and civilian police that should be emphasized more is the fact that military police operates within the boundary of military laws whereas the civilian police operates under civilian Common Law. The military police technically cannot arrest a civilian suspect unless the offense concerned is committed in a military base or military property. Likewise if a serviceman or woman on active service commits an offense in the public domain beyond the boundary of a military base or property, she or he could be arrested by the civilian police but would be handled over to the military police for further investigation and potentially court martial. Exceptions in other Commonwealth nations would be serious crimes such as murder and rape and in which case the serviceman or woman suspect would be put on trial in a civilian court by civilian jury. As well, in other Commonwealth nations, the military police who run military prisons are called the Provost Staff.

As with any MP from civilised, good nations: The simple answer is no. If they did, there would be chaos. Army would easily terrorise the civilian world. It is the job of the police to police the civilian world. Hence in very gentlemanly nations like the U.K, the police dont even carry firearms. But times have changed, obviously. Just that I'm showing you the rationales. We can't have policemen going into army camps because traditionally, crazy things happen in army camps. Hence all armies have MPs to do the policing job in armies. They can only have power when martial law is declared. When crap hits the fan, the police arent enough, so martial law is declared, and MPs (or even other army personnel) can roam civilian streets with power.

if i remember correctly they have jurisdiction outside the camp. I cant remember is its 5m or 25m outside the camp. If anything happens directly outside the camps the ST or MP will 100% help till SPF arrive and they will handover to SPF and assist SPF. Also lets say something happens outside the camp and as camps has CCTV facing out the camp, the SPF cant just ask the military to handover or enter the camp to view CCTV footage as SPF has ZERO power inside any military installation/camp. I remember during one of my duty there was an incident outside the camp and the IO asked to enter the camp to view the CCTV. We rejected him entry as he was not cleared to enter camp and they was a small argument between us. We told him we have to follow protocol and not just let anyone enter camp even if their are police officers. Police Officers are considered "CIVILIANS" if there are inside the military camp. If they want to enter camp they need to sent in personal clearance and it has to be approved before entering the camp

Never mess with Millitary Police (MP). When I was younger,I thought MP can only arrest Military personnel and not civilian. You can just ignore them as they cannot do any harm on you or arrest you. But I was wrong it is not true MPs cannot arrest Civilians. When enlisted just after the tough BMT course immediately posted to a millitary Air base going through the Regiment Police (RP) course that includes martial law and 3 months of hell and learning 5 types of weapon from small arms to APC heavy cannon. Daily 5km march and with fire movement and support surpress fire drills for 10 weeks was so common like lunch or dinner that you need to do it daily. It was luckily to survive through the course in one piece and a normal mind. As the unit required. The training was too tough, harsh and many personnel injuries or fainted during daily 5 KM FBO quick march, alternate day mid-night turn outs, high casualty rate and this type of brutal course programme was canceled for good nowadays. Previous batch of RP soldiers really suffers. I then learned the Military Police can arrest any Civilian also. They are empowered with, and worst if their ops center put civilian name then they can officially go and arrest the Civilian. The warrant card and Arm band they have, is sort of state permission powers, no need to apply through state courts due to higher authorised military protocol. A man with such immense power must be sensible and mature enough to control himself through ROE to prevent abuse of power. They do have the power and authority to arrest very high military officers also. I some times suspect the actual state police is not the SPF, its actually the MP, due to its high power and authority For this reason,it was not used for civil law matters. They have an infamous close arrest mode that SPF do not practice. A hell cuff methodology that nobody want fall into this close arrest mode.,escaping is impossible. For history knowledge,a military vocation called Regiment Police(RP) passed down from the British Empire.where UK ,Australia and other commonwealth countries still practice this kind royal defined military vocation and still inforce till now. Same power as the MPs for them. There was a time where SAF have a vocation called Regiment Police (RP) now called Security trooper(ST) with reduced power. For RP, their arm band is the authority and power for the security of whole area and the base, no need any warrant card approve by state court or military court as the arm band represents it already. There was a time where there is 100% incoming vehicle check. I have directed a MP provost dog van and dog food truck to security lanes for check. Demanding them to off their engines and open all doors and interior compartments. Then was no conflict or those MPs come and confront me or shout at me even they have a higher status. They did what I ordered them (requested) and comply with security checks. That's when I really respected them for their high level of soldiering discipline. The check was smooth and I allowing them to proceed to the military guard dog section unit. Block incoming traffic held all vehicles for them (MPs)to pass through smoothly. Even high rank officers car will stop and give way to them. SPF is also very good and publicly well respected but nowadays they seems to be more sloppier and not much of Manpower serving like the army.It is more tough to carry out their duties. For home affairs protocol knowledge, MPs cannot arrest SPF personnel only their own SPF personnel can arrest themselves if one did wrong. Same goes for the MPs. Suggesting the head of state and key parliament people to change their guards from Police security command (PSC) to plain clothes SOTF ,Guards unit or Military Police unit to armed guard escort them just like Israel does it. Who dares to come and fight the MPs as they are equipped with SAR21s and extra Mags and fire fighting is their best due to infantry trained. It will be too extreme to fight them as their supress firepower are strong and powerful.
