Hi King Lordy!! I am Khushbu from the interview above haha. Wow, it's nice to see your comment. We don't hear many Singaporeans thanking our fathers for their contribution, quite rare hehe. Thank you, I'm sure the Gurkhas will be glad to know that there are people out there supporting them :D. It would be nice to remain in SG but there are policies to be kept so :(( we have to leave sooner or later hehe but SG is such a nice country, we'll be back to visit for sure :)) -Khushbu Pun

A lot of Singaporeans have taken the Gurkhas for granted. They are the first to be mobilized in any dangerous situations (armed robbers in P. Tekong, combing the Kranji forests when Mas Selamat first escaped, Serangoon Road riots etc.) and we just dun give them enough credit. These are some of the people who should be offered citizenship upon retirement as what the British Army has started to do. I just find it ironic that they have to be sent home upon completion of their contract. It's a gross injustice and a debt we owe to our Nepalese friends.

@@Khushbupun I lived not too far from Singapore GC, almost 30 years now, and probably where you spend most of your childhood years too. We should not assume too much about Singaporeans not being too explicitly showing their thanks for Gurkhas. My late grandfather felt they were a good soldier during Singapore Chaotic days. My late father told me they were a silent hero. My uncle worked closely alongside them in the Security force and have the opportunity to join them in Nepal during holiday and thus earned him several friendship kukris from some of the retired Gurkhas. On the other hand, I do believe the younger generations of Singaporeans, in part due to hectic lifestyle, and with very little exposure to the presence of Gurkhas, do not know much about Gurkha behind those high walls and barbed wire. As such, thanking the Gurkhas will have to take many silent forms, mostly out of respect for their & your family privacy, to the extent I was too timid to say “Hi” or “Namaste” when we crossed path in the jogging track, for fear of jeopardizing their career or causing unnecessarily alarm. I wished your father could tell me themselves were more friendly and approachable than I felt they were. Having said that, you should be grateful that your dad is a Gurkha, and Singapore has provided you with the best education your dad has wished for their children. Otherwise, where would your life in Nepal be if all this didn’t happen? Whenever I see a new Generations of Gurkha, replacing the old ones in my neighborhood. I am all joy for these folks because they have earned themselves a recession-proof career and a better secured life too.

I think they should be thankful they have a country to return and the one that welcomes them back wholeheartedly. A transition is difficult but it must have been the same to their parents too when they left Nepal for Singapore or any other country for that matter. Those still stuck anywhere in a country where they know they have to go back please prepare your children likewise. We grew up in India and most of us have spent 4 generations here but ultimately have to return to Nepal.

Before joining Singapore police contingent you know the drawbacks of having to return to Nepal after the retirement , so in a way it’s your choice you have taken it and whatever situation comes at front you have to take it. So many kids halfway through their studies , they come to Nepal where they find it really hard to adjust it. Without knowing how to read and write Nepalese they never gonna make it through the mandatory public examination. Better while at the contingent they should be given the Nepalese syllabus so that they will be well prepared when they return Nepal like in the British Gurkha regiment in Brunei and hongkong (before 1997) where pupils attend Gurkha children and high schools.

There r few comments by our Nepali brothers saying we shouldn't send our people to outside country no more but the bigger problem is what about our forgotten forefathers who died in foreign land under British empire only few records are have to be known until now..many who couldn't come back their doors was to the point of no return ..where Nepal itself doesn't give them citizenship calling them foreigners...how this is even valid where the forgotten rightfull people with same surnames in Nepal r now outsiders in our own land....it was of Anglo-Nepal treaty to send n enroll Nepali natives British empire so it's fullest responsibility to acknowledge those forgotten gorkhas family to get back in our land..anybody wishes to come back they should be given citizenship on base of their titles...immediately..

Theres only one kind of soldiers that can matches their bravery.. no other than the Battle Tested “PHILIPPINE SCOUT RANGERS” which they had fought during the KOREAN WAR, with 40,000 Chinese Communist Soldiers going against 1,400 Filipino Soldiers. Filipinos were outnumbered as BRITISH SPECIAL FORCES fighting hand-in-hand with PHILIPPINE SCOUT RANGERS with limited ammunitions against the Communist Chinese Army but decided to pull back and abandoned their comrade Filipino Soldiers as BRITISH SPECIAL FORCES together with the GURKHA tribe soldiers had RETREATED when they realized that they were facing and heavily outnumbered against 40,000 Chinese Soldiers.. But the few 1,400 FILIPINO SPECIAL FORCES “PHILIPPINE SCOUT RANGERS” decided to remain and hold a fight against the mighty 40,000 Chinese Army in order not to capture the rest of South Korea from Communist Chinese.. As a result on that KOREAN WAR, from 1,400 FILIPINO SCOUT RANGERS had a total casualties of 24 dead soldiers and 26 were heavily injured but on the side of CHINESE COMMUNIST ARMY, there were 7,000 Chinese Soldiers killed and a hundreds have been injured on their side... FILIPINOS were holding their lines and post during that KOREAN WAR while BRITISH SOLDIERS together with GURKHA Tribe Soldiers had quickly abandoned their POST and left their fellow comrade FILIPINO SOLDIERS.. This is one of the reason and the real history why SOUTH KOREA got spared from NORTH KOREA with the Chinese Army during the KOREAN WAR..Salute to the FILIPINO SCOUT RANGERS of 1,400 againts 40,000 Chinese Soldiers were the ratio is 1:40 or 1 Filipino Scout Ranger against 40 Chinese Soldiers.. During that KOREAN WAR, One(1) Filipino Scout Ranger should kill Forty(40) Chinese Soldiers in order to matched 40,000 Chinese Army..

Gorkha recruitment should be banned...this Gurkha word has been defammed by other nationalities by saying "hired soldiers\ contract killers for killing people for the sake of their owners...". The nepali girls here in the video are acting like they are foreigners here in their own country. Its so pity and feel ashamed that these girls were not able to pronounce nepali words n pretend like they don't understand even a very common nepali word "dhanyabaad" rather this Chinese Singaporean spoke this word very easily. I feel so sorry for this pity nepali young girl. I wonder what language they were using among their parents n relatives while they were in SG...Malay, Malayalam(south india), Chinese or English. Is it really defaming nepal & nepali? Singapore is not UK nor America, I know the life of poor Singaporeans during 70s and prosperous today's SG. To be noticed here is, this Chinese Sg girl love her mother tongue Chinese. I have seen Canadian, British or American born Indian girls speaking Hindi fluently. They respect their language n culture, and see our so called poor nepali girls attitude n mentality. Therefore, Gurkha recruitment must be banned.
