I recently came back from Singapore and was amazed at how good their MRT is, was always on time and could pretty much go anywhere for very little cost.

Thanks for a wonderful introduction to our MRT system. Please take a moment to remember it was the late Mr Ong Teng Cheong, a former Minister and President, who pushed for the MRT system in its early days

The "Brown Line" is named the Thomson-East Coast Line or TEL in Singapore. Most foreigners (or sometimes even locals) will identify the line from the colour if they are not very familiar with our Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit Lines. There are 6 MRT Lines, 3 LRT Lines and 2 Mini/Monorail Lines in Singapore. Namely the North-South Line which is the first ever Mass Rapid Transit Line to be built in Singapore and it is coloured red, followed by the East-West Line (coloured green), North-East Line (coloured purple), Circle Line (coloured orange) Downtown Line (coloured blue) and Thomson-East Coast Line (coloured brown). The LRT Lines in Singapore are the Bukit Panjang LRT Line (operated by SMRT), SengKang LRT Line (operated by SBS Transit) and Punggol LRT Line (operated by SBS Transit). The 2 mini/monorail lines in Singapore are the Changi Airport Skytrain Line and the Sentosa Express Monorail Line. The Changi Airport Skytrain Line is operated by Singapore Changi International Airport (Changi Airport Group) themselves while the Sentosa Express Monorail Line is operated by Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC).

To be REALLY INCLUSIVE. They need to stop cramping more people into trains. Because there is simply no way for a wheelchair or a pram to go in or for passengers to give way given how crowded it is. They basically pocket all the maximum profits than blame all the issues of the overcrowded trains on civil mindness.
@applehead7942

that depends on what time you travel. If peak hours, then it’s expected that you can barely get in.

I don't remember they pushed the commuters into the train like Japan did. So how is it they cramped everyone into the train? Not them but the commuters cramping themselves and excluded those in wheelchair and those with stroller. If the ppl r civilized enough they will let those in wheelchair and those pushing stroller to go in 1st and not cramp near them.

Paul employ critical thinking and don’t just listen to LTA’s mumbo jumbo. I for one don’t agree at all with the LTA’s policy on taxis or private hire vehicles. Before taxis were regulated by LTA and had to buy a taxi designated COE (google it but essentially a car certificate). The taxi fares were regulated by the government. Then LTA said that a taxi consumed the same space on the road as a private car, so the private car and taxi’s COE would be pooled together (it is a bidding process). The increase revenue goes directly into LTA pockets. This is nonsense as one was a commercial vehicle running 24hours a day. This let to the COE rising to commercial rates. Now with the private hire business, LTA totally lost all control. They couldn’t suppress it but made it legal by having certification and testing of people who would never been a taxi driver. With this new pool of drivers, the traditional taxi drivers lost income and so now have to compete with housewives who drive private hire cars. The COE is going up and up. The average taxi fare has gone up 2-3 times. The is due to the lack of fore sight by LTA.

He pays a daily hire charge, it may not change so much for him. Now on his app or multiple apps he can pick and choose which fare he likes. He doesn’t have to pick up fares on the street or even short trips. My point is, fares have been risen by 2-3 times for normal trips for passengers.

In land shortage Sg, we can’t go go expanding roads, and create new ones indefinitely. Also if number of Pte vehicles are allowed to increase without checks and balance we will face the woes of terrible air pollution. Hence, the best solution is to force people to take public transport, make public transport efficient, comfortable and affordable. During the 2 years of Covid-19 pandemic lockdown and restricted movements with most people working from home, the air became so much cleaner and u actually have very clear blue sky.
