And yes mutual break up vs taking a break are 2 totally different matters. If your partner slept / dated another person during the break - flick them out asap or swat them like the fly they are. Because a break is to resolve issues etc not preying on other potentials. Clearly that person is not serious with you and takes matters lightly. No amount of apologies will change this behaviour. Next time you take a break again - he or she will use this chance to get busy in the sheets with another person.

If someone forgot their partner’s bday, it is more understandable because in reality (not fairyland), a lot happens in real life which carries a lot of responsibilities, pressure from external parties etc. it is tough to be lovey dovey every single day and remember all the little details. But if a person only remembers (perhaps thanks to a reminder in a phone) and only wishes HB via text to their partner with no follow up ie romantic dinner, intimate time together another day - then that is even *worse* than a partner forgetting the birthday. because you knew yet did nothing. HB wish over text is the laziest, most thoughtless way of celebrating the day your partner was born. Don’t treat your partner same level as a friend. Else why bother? clearly not special enough for you to put extra thought & effort.
