This is the first song i used to learn how to sing. I think I started from zero and I had no idea how hard it is. The idea was if I can do what John Legend do then I can sing that song. Lol. I will sing it everyday several time for months without any progress. You can imagine the frustration and how many times I give up. Only after one year with persistence I managed at last to sing it. If you ask me, it's not worth it, it's much better to learn from a teacher because you will know all the theories and explanation. After watching this video I can understand many things and still can learn a couple of new things.

It would depend on the style of the song? Usually, you are trying to get people TO enunciate, but this softening makes a lot of sense for this type of genre.
