Very good video on a great machine. The only drawback on the 319/320's is the usually very loose stretched out noisy cloth/staple timing belts, and the special needles required which limit you to either an 80/12 or 90/14 needle. The good news is there is a nice, tight, very quiet running cord reinforced toothed rubber replacement timing belt (like Harley Davidon uses on their motorcycles final drive). In addition, a minor modification to the bobbin case, and fine tuning to the timing and needle bar height allows the use of standard needles. Lastly, we replaced the tired low power motors with new .88 amp 5,500 rpm motors and electronic foot controllers. These run so well now that we sold our pair of 401's, and our 201's hardly get used any more. Having owned both a 319 & a 320, I would say the 320 is the ultimate machine once it is modified/updated. Easier to get to the bobbin than the 319, and that skinny freearm is awesome when you need it.

@@artillerybuff2000 thank you so much for sharing this. It seems evident that you have built the ultimate vintage Singer. It must be spectacular if you don’t need the 401 nor 201 which are regarded the best domestic machines Singer made (by some 😉) The 320 is harder to find compared to the 319. After reading your comment I keep on looking for a 320. Thank you!

@erikneek There are couriers that ship to the Netherlands, it's actually not that cost prohibitive. I've purchased items from all over the world many times.

@@artillerybuff2000 Thank you so much. I think the shipping from the US to NL is more expensive then buying a used Singer 320 in The Netherlands. They usually go for 40 to 150 euros or so. Sometimes a little higher if the seller knows what he/she has.

I learnt to sew on this machine when i was just 10 yrs old (1964) ....i inherited the machine when my mother died..... I still have it but i need to know how to service it now. It still works well but needs a new belt. Just about anything can be sewn on it . Some of my attachments need thorough cleaning as they have a bit of rust ( suggestions for how to do this will be appreciated) . Thanks for a Great video! Please show more on this machine😊

Hi, thank you so much for your message! Such a lovely story. Thank you for sharing! I have multiple videos about the Singer 319 including a video on servicing and maintaining a Singer 319. Here is a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fauxoZKvYpZ4oqssi=U4kOGPV0_OT_YTyh A few months ago I received a Singer 20-10 Sewhandy with a lot of rust. I tried to remove the surface rust with aluminum foil, and later with sanding paper. Here is a link to that video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6nXYmCtd8aiia8si=cRfU-TXPyxQbjh1f When you use sanding paper use caution. Dont rub it too much, be gentle with your machine and attachments! You have the risk to damage the plating. Good luck!!!

firstly, this is beautifully shot! everything was clear and easy to see and understand what you were doing. now i'm feeling a little more ready to tackle my new-to-me 319k! my daily driver for years now has been a 201, but i've often wished for the ability to zigzag and overcast, without having to succumb to buying a machine full of plastic. now i'm impatiently waiting for my new needles to arrive so i can try out this interesting box of cams (my machine only has 7 left, so now i expect i'll be trying to track down the rest to complete the collection)

Hi, thank you for your message. First: Congratulations on having your first Singer 319! I think you will like it. (Do not dump the great 201 -- Keep it too!) I'm so happy that you liked the video and found it helpful. If you have any questions: Drop me a line here at YT. Here is another tip: there is a FB-group on the Singer 319 and other zigzag machines: The Singer Swing Needle Sewing Machine group. Good luck

Hi Jane, I'm glad you liked the video. Actually I don't use the 319k. I only bought it to make the video's. I do use a Singer 78-1 for small leather projects. And for lighter work I also have 2x Singer 201 and a Singer 221 Featherweight. Take care.

Hi. I have just purchased one of these from an op shop. I was told that it worked though may need a service. It turns on though it appears to have ceased up. It makes a noise when I push the presser foot though barely moves I try to turn the spindle. Is there anything I can easily do to free it up? Thanks

Hi, thank you so much for watching my video. Yes, often you can free a frozen machine by using sewing machine oil. Apply oil to all the oil holes and oiling points and let it sit for a while. A day (or two) later you do it all over again. It should work. It did with my frozen 206. However, if it is completely frozen you can try kesosine. After applying only a little you must remove it and oil that exact spot with sewing machine oil (according to a Singer manual). I have multiple videos (=2) about freeing a frozen Singer. Good luck!

Hey, thank you for the great video - very nicely produced! I got a 319K a few days ago to surprise my wife for her birthday, as she was having constant troubles with her modern plastic fantastic Husqvarna Viking - even after having it serviced at a shop - and she started talking about older sewing machines. So, I started looking, and a 319K popped up locally. After doing my research, I decided to pick it up. It came with a table and a rather complete set of accessories, and it sort of ran, but the feed mechanism was almost completely seized. Here's a video of the running machine, after I managed to free it up with ATF fluid and patience: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYmodoejjddmgdUsi=u20nRckfuxlrD9tz My last time operating sewing machines was at elementary school almost 40 years ago, but I found the manual online (it's excellent, by the way!), and managed to set it up for sewing. It took me some time, but I persevered, et voila! It actually worked - and smoothly, even! Wow. What a rush. (Here's my first test: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppi1oZJ5Ytugrbcsi=ilSoBChICM-bd9ih) Now I want to sew something myself! 😄

Congratulations on your first (?) Singer. Wow, it runs like a dream. Thank you so much for the videos and for sharing. Now there is only one problem: you are probably hooked on vintage Singer sewing machines after this one. Prepare to have a collection within a few months 😀 Enjoy your 319 !!!

@@erikneek Thanks! It is very smooth indeed. The old Danish motor rattles a bit, but it's easy to change, should it fail, and replacements seem to be plentiful. And yes, this is indeed the first Singer - or any sewing machine for that matter - I've bought. And I find myself eyeing other vintage machines already. I might have caught the bug... Luckily I have a button I need to sew on a pair of jeans, and some tarpaulins I need to fix, so I can perhaps justify another machine..!
