Just FYI there is air conduction from the vocal tract to the ear, and the difference in sound isn't just due to bone conduction vs air conduction. In particular, the mouth opening can make an impedance mismatch between the vocal tract (higher impedance) and the surrounding air (lower impedance). A bigger mouth opening will match impedance better, and this sounds more similar to the singer and the listener than does the exact same vocal coordination with a more closed mouth. It's especially true if making a "metallic" sound (vocal modes with high contact and skewing quotients), for example belting. I think it's a mistake to think of the difference as fixed. It's really obviously not a fixed difference that can be explained by bone conduction.

Hello Mr Byrne, Thank you for this very informative video. I would like to try doing what you suggest. What is the best tuning fork to get? Thank you!!

Fascinating! So glad you made this video.

Does it have to be with a tuning fork, or could you achieve the same result with anything that vibrates at a consistent frequency?
