Andrea, something you said made me realize the pressure that Angelina could have felt if she were an everyday person. Live on TV, in a sober recognition of a great human being, backed by a wonderful and wonderfully prepared orchestra, pushing her voice to the very edge, fulfilling a lifelong dream, representing her country and her family and her heritage. No biggie!😊

This is Angelina's arrangement for this performance. She thanked the KORK Orchestra for believing in her to make it to her liking. They have worked with her twice before when she was 10 yo for Back to Black & Summertime, so it's no wonder that they were willing to accommodate her "wishes."

This was in front of the children of Nargis Mohammedi who is being honoured in this Nobel concert ( who was whipped and is now on hunger strike in prison). Her sensitivity in this performance full of longing. Respectful and empathetic Angelinas performance shows she knows the significance of this song. Brava Angelina.❤❤❤

The problem is when you say stuff like that you turn off all those people who have their own favorites. Plus, Jim, you’re jumping the gun a bit. She is only 17, but will soon be 18. Voice experts tell us the female singing voice matures at in the 20s. We still appreciate the best female singers well beyond that. I love Angelina’s voice but I’m not prepared to say is better than Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, and the rest just yet. She has plenty of time and talent to show us what she will be able to do. I hope she stays with jazz!

@@jeffstumpf9129 She IS a jazz singer who occasionally sings jazz. She is developing her own sound. As far as Ella, a ten year old singing " Everytime we say Goodbye". You don't realize that video will be music history. No she is not singing Jazz strictly, like LAUFEY is. As sophisticated and technical as Laufey is, she doesn't have the soul and depth of Angelina. Also what you said to Jim, he just said recently that Angelina is a nobody who can't hold a candle to, then went through your list adding Sarah and Betty Carter ( who by the way did the best rendition of " Spring can really hang you up the most"). Jim will praise one minute, then trash the next. Also if you like Jazz prodigies, Joey Alexander doing, Coltrane's Giant Steps.

This performance and how the orchestra performs with Angelina, which is very near perfect, is because they are accompanying Angelina, regardless of the excellence of the KORK orchestra they still understand their place, and it’s to allow the singer to drive the bus, and that’s why they are a good match!

Andrea, a little background on the event. This was honoring Narges Mohammadi who is currently imprisoned in Iran for speaking up for Women's/Human rights. Serving 31 years and 154 lashes. Her two children ( AJ's age) are there to recieve the Nobel for their mother. Angelina selected this song with it's significance to Narges situation. Unchained Melody was written for a 1955 Movie about a man imprisoned longing for his love ones. The words, " I'll be home, Wait for Me", are powerful in this instance.. Angelina's grandma who is Iranian share this honor. That's why she performed this reverently.

Angelina inspires me to do what I can to help make the world a better place, so I am asking all angels and others to spread the story of Narges Mohammadi. Angelina was recorded here at the Nobel Peace prize ceremony in Oslo Norway, performing this beautiful version of Unchained Melody. She paid tribute to Narges, who is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two twin children, who are 17, spoke on her behalf at this event. The more people who are aware and call for change, the more likely the leaders of Iran will set her free. Acts of kindness, is what Angelina always reminds us to do. We angels, and all others need to honor Angelina by doing what we can to be kind to others. The smallest acts of kindness can make a difference.

John Gary vs Angelina Jordan Unchained Melody One of the most memorable experiences of my life was seeing John Gary perform live in Seattle, WA, when I was 20 years old. He had such a powerful and beautiful voice that filled the whole auditorium. During the break, he sat down on the edge of the stage and played his guitar, singing Unchained Melody with so much emotion and passion. It was a sublime moment that I shared with my wife, and I felt like we were the only ones in the room. At that time, I thought to myself; how could anyone top that performance, but 56 years later a 17-year-old Angelina Jordan just did. Angelina Jordan's performance at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Norway in 2023 blew me away. She sang with such passion and emotion that I felt every word in my soul. She truly captured the essence of the song and made it her own. and she is only 17-year-old. I have never heard anything like it before, this genius never ceases to amaze me. © Larry D. Pifer

Andrea, I enjoyed your analysis of this beautifully respectful performance by Angelina Jordan. Narges Mohammadi was the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and she is currently in prison in Iran, for being an outspoken activist for human rights, especially women's rights. Narges's two children, twins, accepted the award for their mother. Angelina's maternal grandmother was considered a prodigy as a painter and poet while growing up in Iran. We can only imagine the conversations Angelina had with her mother and grandmother about Narges and how to best pay tribute to her. I have read others say, Angelina was integral in the arrangement for the orchestra, and I can believe that. Angelina's intention was to pay tribute and express the heartbreaking emotion of Narges in prison and separated from her two children for most of their lives. I believe Angelina accomplished her goals beautifully.

I was so impressed with her eloquent 'thank you' to KORK and their administrator on her Instagram page... First, she expressed how "privileged " she was to participate in this concert. Then she thanked them for "trusting" her in the the "process" of making this amazing rendition of "Unchained Melody". While the 'Angels' are swept away with Angelina's incredible performance, she knows it was a special team effort... Maybe it's just a minor observation, but her thoughtfulness and humility in reaching out to them speaks volumes about this very special person... It takes more than talent to be a star. Even at a very young age, Angelina's always demonstrated 'character'. It's the most important part of her talent. She was born with it. And, it's why she continues to strive and amaze when so many other 'child prodigys' are soon forgotten. And, it's that special element that will continue to sustain her throughout her career... 👣👣💕

Whimsical definition: “playfully quaint or fanciful, especially in an appealing and amusing way.” Perhaps you had another word in mind because this song was dedicated to Narges Mohammadi. “The 2023 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Narges Mohammadi, an imprisoned Iranian scientist, journalist and human rights activist, for her principled and persistent campaign against the increasingly repressive regime in Iran.” Angelina’s grandmother Mery is Iranian so the song is a very serious dedication to a very serious person who is sacrificing her freedom so that others might gain their’s. I always enjoy your reactions especially to Angelina. You being a singer have a deeper insight into the art and mechanics of singing than the average listener. Looking forward to your next reaction!

All Angels know that when Angelina sings softly it gives you that motherly caring feel of assurance, love and embrace. Hello, Andrea. Thank you very much for an excellent reaction to this performance! This ceremony is always held here in Norway, and she flew in from LA to perform in her home country. The Nobel Peace Prize is one of 5 Nobel Prizes awarded every year for worthy recipients. The peace prize recipients are nominated and chosen by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, appointed by the Parliament of Norway, as per the will of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish founder of the event. He was a Swedish chemist, engineer and inventor and was the one who invented dynamite. Not very peace-like, but still. The Nobel prizes have been awarded for the last 122 years, starting in 1901. This year's prize was awarded to women's rights advocate Narges Mohammadi from Iran for her work in fighting against the oppression of women in Iran. All the performers in the event were from Iran or had Iranian descent. Angelina's grandmother Mery Zamani was born in Iran, and so I can imagine that performing here meant a LOT for Angelina and her family. Narges was sentenced to 31 years in jail and I believe 154 lashes. If you pay attention to the lyrics, you will understand that it was a beautiful choice for the occasion, and the lyrics may very well be interpreted as being told by Narges herself, and/or her family, which she hasn't seen in many years. Her son and daughter live in France, and they came to Norway to receive the prize on their mother's behalf. All in all this was an extremely beautiful performance, one which suits Angelina perfectly, as she has helped raise millions of dollars through the years for various charity events, and she has even been seen in the streets of LA, helping underprivileged people. A tradition that she carries on from her childhood, where her Japanese grandfather and husband to her Iranian grandmother could be seen in the streets of Oslo, the capital of Norway, doing the same deeds. As an example, she donated the 50.000 USD that she got for winning Norway's Got Talent when she was 8, to charity. And also, she always performs barefeet to remind herself of an encounter she had with a girl from the Middle East when she was 6 years old, who was weighing people on the streets to make a living for her and her siblings, as they had no parents to care for them. The girl had scarry feet and had no shoes, so Angelina gave her shoes to the girl. She later wrote a book about this encounter, called "Between Two Hearts", and became Norway's youngest published author at age 9. If you pay close attention, you will see that Angelina was yet again performing barefoot, staying true to herself in remembrance of the girl she met. Angelina is a beautiful human being inside and out, and an incredibly worthy artist to perform at this event. Take care and have a Happy New Year, Andrea! Much love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥ Btw, Angelina will turn 18 in 12 days from today, on January 10th.

Great reaction. Your comments acknowledging the orchestra's introduction were spot on. They did indeed set the mood and raise the intensity of the impact of the vocals once AJ entered the performance. The orchestra's crescendo's into key points in the song further added to the emotional intensity of Angelina's performance. And finally the horn section providing beautiful (I think minor) chords accompanying her through the "Lonely river flows .." following the moving crescendo into that section was perfect. Also thanks for noting the double trill she pulled off perfectly on following the first held note in her head voice before she slid up to the higher notes to conclude. That trill stopped my heart the first time I heard it. I'm fine now.

Wonderfully insightful breakdowns, Andrea. When this channel was a duo, I enjoyed the fun, energy, and combined insights. But the big energy from the guy put you in the background a bit. This is the Andrea show, no bones about it. Here we get the full wisdom. love of music, and beauty of soul you possess.

I love your reactions, glad you are solo to give a more constant insight moment to moment. Did not know what you meant by whimsical. The band played beautifully, but it was the kind of backup I'd expect from a good orchestra.

Her talent is amazing. How appropriate it is, knowing the special person she is, that she would perform at the Nobel Peace Prize.

😊😊NEWS! - NEWS - NEWS! Please next from Angelina Jordan - "Bad Valentine" The newest song from Angelina is the rawest and most amazing song I've ever heard. We know that Angelina is a super mega vocalist, but this was so good and powerful that it can't actually be described in words. WARNING! That song will blow your socks off!

Angelina and an orchestra, love it. I have watched two other Angelina with this KORK Orchestra.."Back to Black" and a 2014 performance of "Summertime", which gives mee a similar vibe as this performance. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaXad2eqnpanmMUsi=-Ik_TCfN1HeDPFPy). Remember this the same year as her NGT victory.

As beautiful as this was, it takes on much greater significance when you know the story behind it, and thankfully several commentors have explained it. For a very special presentation of this performance and the meaning behind it, by James Thiel, see the link below, or search: "Angelina Jordan STORY Nobel Peace Prize Tribute UNCHAINED MELODY Dec 11, 2023". It shows how Angelina fit so perfectly into the ceremony. The historical references put into context Angelina's unique connection to the committee and the cause being honored. It explains the significance of her performance, and the especial reverence she showed to Narges Mohammadi and her family. Plus, you get to watch her sing it again and hear her heartfelt, touching message to her fans. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/imfMood5hcp8fJY

This event is to honor a women activist Iranian in jail. All performers had to have Irainan in their heritage. She is 1/3rd Persian from Northwest Iran.

Good reaction, but please a little less singing. Angelina is never about showing off, but always respecting the music and moment. That is a real artist. Singers that has nothing but technical excellence always fail for me.

A little tip Andrea, fix your hair a litte and and overall clean up your act a little. cuz when the camera pans to angelina she looks like an angel then it pans back to you and you look like you slept in your car last night its not very pleaseing to the eye. Nothing personal just a constructive criticism. You will lose followers if you look like you live in the streets not that theres anything wrong with that. If thats your forte more power to ya GF. Good Luck with your situation .
