Dimash is playing the Emperor and LiYugong is the concubine (he is famous in the Peking Opera playing female parts - a tradition). The Emperor has condemned the concubine to death (maybe for treason?) - this is when he does the low vocal fry - and she reminds him of the wonderful time that they had when they were drunk. The Emperor wishes that they could have one more time of drunkenness together. There are no 'sound effects', that is Dimash hitting a F7. He hits a D8 in Gakku 'Unforgettable Day'. Love this performance!!! Drunken Concubine in dialogue the tragic story between a famous concubine of the Chines imperial court, Li Yugang in that role, and the emperor, Dimash´s rol that´s why the throne at stage. At the end of the story the concubine is poisoned as a result of court intrigues. Li Yugang is a famous artist considered China´s National Treasure and he is a nan dan singer (male playing female roles) art forms from Peking Opera, giving the traditional art a modern edge. The way he moves (knees bent together and those "meows" have a special meaning in the traditional opera). What is most amazing about Li is that he could´nt study in the university or conservatory of music, he is absolutely autodidact which is so admirable!! 👌👍💥

Li Yugang is trained in the classical Chinese opera male singer voice who performs traditionally in female roles, thus the very distinctive timbre to his voice. Dimash then modified his approach to these songs in order to create a cohesive total. Drunken Concubine started and finished the duet, but with the Diva Dance in between. The Diva Dance is from the movie The Fifth Element and was constructed so that no human could sing it, yet Dimash does. He also does it solo. So what sounded weird to you sounds weird to many, but it allows the classic style to interact with Dimash effectively. Listen to it several more times and it will grow on you as you absorb the subtleties of the duet.

The first time I listened to this I simply couldn't "hear" it. There was no comprehension, my brain just wouldn't do it. Took 3-4 times before I could actually hear and understand the notes playing off of each other. I figure it was just so new to my brain that it had no way decipher it, and I needed to lay down some additional neural network links to do it, LOL! Anyway, I just adore this piece now, can't listen often enough. It's brilliant. Dimash's pop tones against traditional Bejing opera tones are just mind-blowing.

Dimash......F#7 here. Li Yugang is a famous traditional Chinese Opera singer. He has been trained and specializes in female roles 'nan dan'. Off stage, Li Yugang speaks normally as any other man. Li Yugang ia also a contemporary singer. He is no stranger to performing in huge stadiums/arenas in China.

Yeah as many others are saying, and I have said weeks ago, the Gakku version of "Unforgettable Day" is higher and clearer. You also should check out the Idol Hits version of "Screaming", Dimash does something else unusual for him that will impress. I also recommend Dimash's cover of "Passione" for more Dimashing.

So Li is a traditional trained opera singer. His specific training is to sing like a woman. He is playing the role of a concubine to Dimash the master. When Dimash goes that low, he is angry with the concubine. Notice Li is wearing what looks like 3 to 4 inch stacked shoes so as not to look so short, Dimash being a bit over 6'3" tall.

That was Dimash growling. And that was 7th octave whistle. He has an 8th octave one as well. Lee is a Chinese opera singer specialising in nan role, a sort of a counterternor, look it up. Quite an unusual blend of cultures, different singing styles and songs too (traditional Chinese and the Diva Dance)

For another singing style, you could check out Inner Mongolian singer Tengri's performance of "Heaven" on Singer 2018. If you Google the song under the name Tengger, you will see a video with Eng. subs. When Dimash covered Lionel Richie's "Hello" as a guest performer on Singer 2018, he met Tengri - and later they got together and sang the duet "Swan Goose". ( But check out "Heaven" first to see some different singing techniques.)

Marcelito is a good singer but he needs to train super hard for many more years. Dimash is the big star with high caliber already. No one called someone an artist if that person has NO flavor and identity of themselves for the uniqueness! Dimash is the whole another level, many aspects of voices, many genres, handsome, tall charisma, strong stage presence, plays many instruments and sings in many languages, make cover songs for his own versions and still sounds so epic! Performed many stages and many his own concerts. I mean Dimash is the phenomenal vocalist of many years!!

I guess no, I said he is talented , that’s why He joined American Got Talent, and it is perfect for him and what he can do. Do I really consider him as an artist? Maybe not ...yet. What I mean is when we all join a competition, no one cares what your background really is, whoever shows the most skills and talents, they will win. So not too good to pull the background of where you are from, how you live... does not make it fair really for those who studied and trained a lot. He is good. for Li Yu Gang 李玉刚~ he is a special "category" in real Peking／Beijing Opera called "nandan", it's really amazing. traditionally NO females are allowed on stage, so all parts were performed by men. they not only train their voices, also dancing, acting, gestures etc...
