Someone else may have said this already, but Jin didn't begin singing until his 20's when he was asked to join BTS as their "Visual" member. His voice is so clear and pure and really tugs at your heart. It means so much that you understood his precious message to us as he says goodbye to fufill his military service requirement. This song brings me to tears every time as well. I think you would love Jin's "Epiphany" but it is another emotional journey you need to be prepared for. The special thing about these guys is their ability to pull sudden emotion out viewers by pouring in their emotions into their work. This song is a great example of Jin’s ability to express emotions through his vocals. You’re right, It’s a special song, because it’s a gift to ARMY before he leaves for military. It’s a love song, it’s a thank you and it’s a promise he’ll be back. Thanks for this reaction. :) Yeah, you understand this music video exactly. :) The oldest member, Jin, will enlist the military on Dec. 13 and serve for 18 months under South Korean law, and all six other BTS members will serve in the military in order of age and will be reunited in 2025. The Astronaut is a song Jin made with Coldplay as a gift for their fans ARMY to say goodbye for a little while. BTS is consisting of three rappers and four vocalists. And all seven of them are excellent dancers. They do a wide variety of music, but basically they are rooted in hip-hop. All seven members are participating in making their songs by writing, composing, and producing them. BTS started with a small company that almost went bankrupt, so they have been very looked down and hated by Korean broadcasting stations and other K-pop fandom. So they have struggled from the beginning to prove themselves. If you want a little backstory about the music video, Jin is an astrounaut(or alien) from another planet who crashed on Earth. He still wanted to back to his home planet, but the little girl represents ARMY(BTS' fan base) who found him and gave him a home. When he has a chance to go back to his planet, he remembers the life he has spent with the little girl on Earth, realizes how happy it was and how much he loved it, and decides to stay on Earth. He's found his home is HERE. After watching the music video, it'll be very touching to whatch Coldplay and Jin's live performance in Argentina. :) Oh, before you watch the live performance, I hope you also watch Chris Martin's touching introduction to Jin. :) This song reminds me Jin's speech in 2018 MAMA. Jin said in his acceptance speech at the 2018 MAMA that BTS suddenly became famous worldwide and had a hard time for a year due to great pressure and fear. They even thought about disbanding. However, after a year of talking and contemplating with the members, they decided to stay in the industry only for the fans and members. They stayed for ARMY even though they had a chance to return to their normal lives. And at the last October's concert in Busan, BTS member SUGA told ARMY to grow old together because they will make music for another 20 or 30 years. BTS' love for ARMY is very deep, and they always show their love through their music. The Astrounaut is one such song. Oh btw, Jin's neck in the music video at 3:50 says "ARMY" in Braille and the crossword puzzle (the black squares) means "FOR ARMY" in Braille. :) If you are interested in Jin's other songs, I would like to recommend Epiphany, Awake, Moon, Abyss and So far away (Suga,Jin,Jungkook). Jin said in one of his interviews that his fave lyrics in the song is the one you went back to and read again which is "like that asteroid drifting by without a destination. I, too, was just drifting along" coz it literally embodies his life before bts and before meeting their fans army. Yes, you can call him beautiful coz he practically is. Once you get to check his other solo songs and his parts in bts songs, you would totally be justified when you said he has a naturally emotive voice. Yes, exactly. This was Jin's goodbye song to ARMY. He just started his 18 months of mandatory military service. You should watch the live performance of this song that Jin did with Coldplay in Argentina. There's a moment at the end where Jin laughs out loud that is the most charming thing I've ever seen. My favorite Jin songs are Epiphany, Awake, and Yours (theme song for K-drama Jirisan). Make sure to watch Epiphany in a live performance to get the full power of Jin's voice.

He was studying Acting at Konkuk Uni, 1 of the most prestigious, private Unis in Seoul. He managed to graduate despite getting more & more successful as a BTS member. All of the members are very unique and bring something different to the group musically, and as you noticed Jin is known to have a very powerful, clear and expressive voice that truly tugs at the heartstrings. Yours(OST), Epiphany(the MV isn't the full version so I'd recommend the live stagemix) and Abyss(a song he made when going through a depressive episode and released for free, so it's not super intricate production wise, but still beautiful) are some other songs of his that you might wanna check out. RM(another BTS member) released an MV for his song "Wildflower"(ft. Youjeen) very recently, and I think you'll like it if you appreciate great lyricism. It's off his newly released album "Indigo".

This song! You got it, you really got it. I have an eight year old daughter. I live far from her right now and although we talk a lot I only get to see her a few times a year. Last time I was there I showed her this video and then we sang together. "When I'm with you, there is no one else, I get Heaven to myself" - she said that, and added "Papa, I feel that way about you." Me too, kiddo. And then we talked about how he goes back because the little girl chose him to be her family - which is how I became her papa. He loves her so he's happy to come back. I cried a bit, but she's used to me tearing up and was just happy. She wanted to watch it again. 💜 So now it's not just that Jin wrote this for ARMY, it also carries so much of my relationship with my daughter. When I'm with her, there is no one else, and I'd give up the universe in a heartbeat. The video wrecks me every time. Watching her teach him how to be a person and love him so hard he had to love her back. There are so many little moments that I feel deep down. I should learn enough Korean to tell Jin this story. I have watched this MV many times but the more I watch it (especially now that Jin has already enlisted in the military), the more I get emotional. Especially the part where the UFO is already fixed. My mind is thinking that Jin is about to go to the army (which he was always ready and was preparing for, all this time) but now, he's no longer happy to go because he can't leave us (BTS ARMYs). It's always a struggle for me not to cry. I succeeded so far (though my eyes are teary and my heart felt heavy) but I don't know if I can still survive if I kept watching this MV. 😭 Even a non-army is about to cry watching and listening to this song. It's twice or thrice as hard for ARMYs not to cry. 😭😭😭

THere’s only a first time once! So watch it once first just to take it in. Then I watch for the lyrics and typically look to see if there are Korean explainer videos out there. They help you understand the cultural references that we Westerners miss. Then watch again for the third time with all that knowledge in you. I know this sounds crazytown, but there is so much depth and breadth to BTS that you miss so much. Welcome baby ARMY! Have fun. You only fall down the rabbit hole once. Jin has worked very very hard at controlling the air in his vocal folds. He goes from chest to mix to head and falsetto with ease. or, rather, with what looks like ease. All their MV are like this. I totally get you.. Jin has the ability to move you viscerally with his voice.. His lyrics are generally quite straightforward, but they are very honest and vulnerable in their simplicity and paired with that voice of his, he can do some serious emotional damage haha.. But honestly, I heard him sing Epiphany live in Saudi Arabia and I swear it felt like a spiritual experience of self-affirmation.. There was not a dry eye in that stadium, and I just know that so many lives had changed for the better just coz they were there to hear him. Music really is powerful, so when you have people who wield it for good, the effect is profound.. I'm so impressed that you got what the song was referring to as an outsider looking in! In the music vid, he was not from Earth. But he came to love this planet and the girl who always wants to be with him. In real life, Jin wasn't going to be a musician/singer originally. That was not part of his plan. But maybe it's fate that Big Hit Entertainment found him and he became a member of BTS. In his past song he had, he referred to himself as the moon and BTS ARMY as his Earth. The girl who's about 10 years old maybe representing the fandom. Now he feels at home with ARMY and has no plans of going back to his original plan but stay with BTS and BTS ARMY only💜

Oh.... we cried first time hearing it too. You talked about how some singers have the ability to "emote" a song. You've already done Jungkook's Cover of Falling (wish I an see that here.😉), but before Falling there was Stay Alive ( that haunted me for weeks..even till now actually coz u can actually feel the uncertainty, fear, pleadings in his voice-and mind u i dont understand Hangul), and then even way before that, JK was in the Masked Singer-SK and His voice (at a younger age then) .... you can hear the yearning, pain, and joys. I only discovered your channel today due to the BTS reaction and I loved it. BTS are the only group I know (and I am 50 year old ARMY from UK) that make me truly feel emotions while listening to their music. You nailed the meaning of the song. The little girl represents ARMY in this video. Another song I love is Magic Shop. The youngest member Jungkook wrote it as a gift to ARMY. I know exactly what you mean about the emotion in singing. When I was in college my dorm room was right next to the lounge where there was a piano, and there was a girl who would go in there every day and play and sing Les Misrables songs with absolutely no emotion in her voice. She hit the notes but it was almost robotic. How can you sing I Dreamed a Dream without a drop of emotion!?! I had to wrap a pillow around my ears to study or go stark raving mad, or go next door and slap her across the face and be like,”Now that you’re crying try it again!”

Yes you’re right and the little girl is army so at the end when he was supposed to leave on the spaceship he decided not to go because he loved her so much so he was actually running back to her. Basically saying that he loves army so much that he’s going to come back

Thank you for your amazing reaction. I have been ARMY since they debuted in 2013 and this is such a great breaking song. I have been with these boys on their journey and as we say farewell to our Jin, this gift he has given us is so breathtaking, so beautiful in its message. Yes he has to leave us for a while, but we will be waiting for his return. The fact that you cried, even though you are new to ARMY, shows the depth of his lyrics and the emotion that he has poured into this MV. He is an incredible vocalist who had no signing or dancing background when he joined BTS. He used to get up earlier than the other members, just to practice more. He was ridiculed in the early years - people said he had no talent! Yeah - hard to believe isn’t it. Just goes to show what hard work and determination can achieve. The ending in the purple universe is ARMY. Our color is purple. I have watched this MV a hundred times and just realized Jin is the alien who stops on Earth and realized how amazing this world is so his ship leaves without him. 😭 Now his world is ARMY

Emotive singing is more difficult than people think. It requires a very close connection to the music, the lyrics and the intention, all at the same time. A lot of the ability to emote comes with maturity and sometimes with personal experience. Jin definitely has that talent, and he's one of a kind. I miss him already, and the first time I saw this video, I bawled my eyes out. There are a million little easter eggs in the video. Your interpretation is absolutely spot on - he's telling us (and the members) good-bye for now.
