In this video, I dive deep into the art of “flusso d’aria” (airflow) 🌬️🎶 Discover how the air must flow continuously beneath the vocal cords, just before the attack, even when we go into an instance of apnea. By keeping our vocal cords at maximum tension to create resistance to the constant “flusso d’aria” on a Gola Aperta, we ensure a powerful, vibrant sound, even in the softest pianissimos. Remember, l’aria deve passare! 💨🎶 Without airflow, there is no vibration.

In this video, I pay tribute to the legendary Maestro Antonio Cotogni, the mentor of greats like Beniamino Gigli and Giacomo Lauri-Volpi. Cotogni’s philosophy, “Il canto è alito vibrante,” inspired me to develop a unique exercise using my glasses to visualize and control my breath. 🌟👓
By making my breath, or “alito,” visible through the steam on my glasses, I am able to achieve the “alito vibrante” that Cotogni preached. This simple yet powerful exercise has been incredibly effective for my students, helping them master Una Linea di canto. 🎼✨
