I don't think PTX fans will hate on Avi's replacement at all. They have too much respect for the other members and will value their choice and learn to love the new PTX.

Terry Magram you’re right, not quite ‘hate’ on Matt but some people have been quite disrespectful to him (& in turn Avi). I love Matt. I also realise that if he didn’t join them, without them choosing any of the other Basses who auditioned for them, we would be without Pentatonix! Some of the fans have been unnecessarily negative! This reaction was posted before Matt came onboard, but the sentiment that it won’t be the same, has been used by a lot of people, which didn’t really give the newcomer (whoever it was going to be), a fair chance! I love that I can hear Matt without always needing my headphones. I don’t know what that says about his voice, the audio production or the songs that they’re singing, but I really like it. Having said that, I’d be interested to know if Matt could sing their intro to their Aha cover, because I think that his Bass may not resonate as deeply as Avi’s even if they’re both hitting the same note. To me, once a Pentaholic always a Pentaholic!

​@@caroleceres On one hand, to be fair to people saying it won't be the same...they're right. No two voices are exactly the same, so it *won't* be the same. And, speaking from the future where Avi's been gone for a few years now and I've heard a lot of Matt, it definitely isn't the same. However, to the people who use "won't be the same" as if it's a bad thing, that's just stupid. It's not a bad thing, it's just different. Avi and Matt are both phenomenal bass singers, and while I have a soft spot for the resonance and fullness of Avi's voice, there is *nothing* bad you can say about Matt's voice. It's just different.

However we now further understand the choice of Matt’s Bass tones, far more suited to the Pop/Soul sound that PTX were always aiming for! I’m enjoying the journey. Avi did not die, so I can't be sad. He is making the music he wants, close to home. If Kirsty's EP and the 2 Future Friends EPs, were not really good, I'd be worried, but they are, so the rest of the group have not lost any of their creativity or drive. Everyone will be just fine.

I can't really get that upset about Avi leaving. I've been alive long enough to see lots of bands lose members and, as Avi sang, it turns out fine. Pentatonix will evolve and continue to make music and Avi will make music, too.

Yess finally.. I've been requesting this forever.. One of my absolute favorite live covers by them!! This arrangement is soo SICK, and Mitch just bloody slayed!! 😍 Kevin and Avi stood out too. 💕 That thing Kirstie does at the end is just gorgeous! She, along with Scott backed Mitch so perfectly, gahh!! 😍 You should hear the original track by Kiiara to see what PTX actually did with it. Its crazy! Another mad live cover is *No* by Meghan Trainor, its just..You have to see it! I'm glad you get how it is about Avi's departure. You are right about it never being the same again, ofcourse it never will be. But it'll probably be a new PTX with a different sound that is just as good. I am a new subscriber as of today. I am a huge Pentaholic...love everything about them, I miss Avi like crazy. I love your reactions, they are so sincere and awesome!!! I would love to see you react to their songs from The Sing off..where they first started. Their version of Born to be wild was amazing!! They have a song titled Sing, they had their fans send in videos and met up with a huge crowd of fans for the video..They love their fans, that is what makes them so special!!!!

elaine adams, may I ask why you ‘miss Avi like crazy’? I’m not trying to be rude or argumentative - I just want to understand a point of view. I loved Pentatonix with Avi in it. I really loved his humility. I believe that all of the band have that sincerity, love and appreciation for their fans, but Avi seemed to be the embodiment of it. However, that hasn’t been lost since his departure, we know that they still have it, he just seemed to radiate it more. But I also REALLY LOVE Matt in Pentatonix. If someone Had to leave the group, I’m glad that a super talented Pentaholic was able to be the replacement! I love everything that they’ve put out so far and wish that I could see them this summer in concert. Matt has been a great addition, in my opinion. I know that you wrote this months ago, but I’m curious to know your thoughts and feelings about this & I feel that this is a safe space to ask it, without being jumped on and called names. If you do not wish to reply, that’s perfectly okay too. Thank you! 🤗

Carôle Ceres Personally I like both, even if I have the feeling that they were able to risk more on arrangements and choices with Avi, because of his more experience and wild range voice. I mean, technically he is a beast and his background as opera singer helped (plus, I think that the background arrangements were creative and different as hell with him and Kevin, that are far more experienced than Matt). With Matt I have the feeling that they switch on more pop-ish kind of way that is good and smooth, but a little less different from the overall music market nowadays. But, said that, I have to point some things about Matt: he is a great singer and seems a very nice person. Isn't easy AT ALL join a new group (which sings along since 6 years and in where all member are FRIENDS) and, at the same time, being loved by the fan, being loved by the other members, being good with their musicality and their sound and LEARN all the transitions like he does... oh wait, and also accept and be able to follow their schedule, rythm and way of leaving (which is all around the world EVERY TIME). This shows a highly professionalism, steem, will to learn and improve and, yes, respect for Pentatonix AND Avi work. Personally, I always prefer Avi because I'm a fan of peculiar-different-rare sounds and I've always thought that his was one of the best sound I've ever meet. even when he was with PTX (I mean, he was my favorite even since). The proof of that is that I follow much more him now with his folk projects than in the past. About the missing, well I just enjoy him as a person (as far I can know him through a screen) and I enjoyed him with the other guys. But Matt is the perfect choice for PTX, because he is working in all the things I said (how the hell he can managwe it, I don't know). Also, I think that Avi helped to choice him and if the original bass his agreeing this, I'm not the person who can disagree (I haven't the right technical preparation neither I know their background story in all this situation to speak). And, maybe this is just my impression, but I'm starting to think (seeing the behind the scenes etc) that Matt works better in this kind of environnment than Avi, which sometimes seemed too stressed or not very confortable. So: he is agreeing on everything and seems so happy now, PTX are happy, Matt seems good so why I have to say something mean about the situation? Other things are just frustrating people and keyboard warriors. Sorry If I've answered but I wanted to say mine (and sorry for my very bad english!)

As always, GREAT reaction guys. I do recommend as Anonymous Blah mentioned in the comments to just take a quick listen to the original song because it's a very 'electronic effect' sounding song and they capture it PERFECTLY but still put a PTX stamp on it. :-)

Yes, it was devastating to hear him leave and a lot of people (including me) cried because Avi was a part of the PTX family. He & Kevin started with Scott, Mitch & Kirsten when they competed and won The Sing Off. Although we all totally understand why he had to leave and we will continue to support him, it was still a great loss. It will be hard to replace him because he fit in so well with Pentatonix...but they still need to pick a bass and hopefully it will be someone that will fit Pentatonix.

MAProductions: I agree with you guys. I've been watching them since their very first episode on The Sing-Off. They won that show - not even close, that's how ridiculously they outperformed the other teams, and they FORMED the week before they auditioned for the show. The show itself was their first performance on a stage. Avi isn't just a bass. He's a beat-bass. If you watch them from the very beginning, you'll notice his beats get better from video to video - like Kevin was working with him on how to make his bass more dynamic. There are songs where Avi beats while Kevin is singing, he got really good at it, and that made what he did with PTX even better than when they started. Add to that the fact that Avi is an overtone singer, and there's just no comparison anymore. So the problem now isn't that a new bass will have to fill his shoes. It's that a new bass likely won't bring to the table what Avi evolved into in terms of his vocal skill-set. I wish the best to the new person, whoever that ends up being. But the comparisons to Avi, and the disappointments in the groups limitations absent Avi's skills, are an unfortunate inevitability.

Run to you (original)! LA LA Latch (cover) are on the top of my list for reactions. I admire Avi's maturity to take care if himself. So many rise to the top so fast and take a turn for the worst. Looking back, I wonder how long he's been unhappy. If you watch and listen to Avi's new songs and videos he seems very happy and enjoying being in the perfect environment, nature.

I think he was happy making music with the group, it was the insane schedule and lack of rest or recharge that wore him for it. And honestly, I can't blame him one bit. Scott is seriously driven, and out of all the members has done the most side projects it seems. To have kept that pace for 6 years straight would wear anyone out. He is older than the others as well by a few years and there is a large difference between 24 and 30. I understand his choice. Miss him terribly though. I am holding out that he will do a comeback tour someday LOL. Don't get me wrong, I love Matt and what he brings in, he balances very well with the group. I look forward to more from Avi in the future. They are all just so damn talented.

Hi guys, Again, I want to mention the "Somebody That You Used To Know" again, for one reason alone. This song is an older song. They look like they are in a warehouse downstairs corner, or a basement. I believe that is for the acoustics. Avi starts it, and the Trio take the lead at different points. Mitch has the chorus, Scott has the first verse, and Kirstie has the second verse. Kevin is doing this thing that sounds like a droplet of water falling. After that, you've got to see the original. Losing Avi is Soul crushing for me. I am determined to be supportive of the new bass. If we're not, it will affect PTX when they have literally "Just Arrived" on the mainstream music scene and are receiving recognition from their Peers and being booked for performances as headliners. Examples would include headlining "The Hollywood Bowl". And the live Star Wars Tribute Collaboration with a symphony orchestra at the AMAs I believe (?). Best-selling albums and their own holiday special on NBC in 2016 called "A Pentatonix Christmas". They have another holiday special this upcoming season. We can't let them lose what they've ALL sacrificed and worked so hard for. Avi has his band and everyone is very supportive. We need to be supportive of PTX at this incredibly important time in their careers, or it might be the end of this amazing group.

You're right, it is heart-breaking to think about PTX without Avi, but it is what it is. There are some incredible basses out there, and finding someone with the right combination of humor, classic skills and a "butt-shaking bass" (to quote Ben Folds on the Sing-Off), may take some time. Chris Rupp, one of the founding members of the A Capella band Home Free, recently left. They picked Street Corner Symphony's Adam Chance to take his place. His range (from bass to middle tenor) fills out the band's sound nicely and he can handle bass parts s free up Basso Profundo Tim to sing lead. Chance is not a bad lead singer either.

Different and in some ways better. Their concerts will probably be more high energy with Matt. Avi wasn’t a dancer and didn’t really like doing too much choreography. Matt on the other hand, can’t stand still! He easily compares to Mitch in that regard. Their new routines will be interesting to see/watch. Vocally, he can sing the same low notes as Avi, but it also sounds as if he can sing as high as Scott! 😳 It’s early days to compare them, and whilst we may wish to not compare, we’re only human. I would be interested if someone (knowledgeable in music scales etc. not just opinionated), could explain to me how it is that I can more often times hear Matt sing without needing to wear headphones (even though it is 1,000 times better with them), than I could with Avi. When Avi seems to have a deeper Bass - even though they’re singing the same note? I’d like a music/choir/voice coach to advise me please, I find it intriguing. Thank you!

Not exactly. They didn't like how he danced apparently. Their choreographer limited him alot. Watch their earlier performances. No sexiness allowed became the rule and he winds up just standing there by the end. Completely different from the energy he brought to the group in the beginning.

Way back in the Sing Off days, Avi chose to stay at the back when the introduction full production ‘showpiece’ was being performed, because he didn’t want to dance! You could see that every week. Even when PTX were front and centre, he was conspicuous by his absence! That was from day one! So, that doesn’t explain your version of the lack of choreography!! Because he did the choreography during the PTX performances on the show.
