During most of the day, my voice is confident and goes high and low (just as in normal conversations, when you highen or lower your pitch for entonation), but at afternoon and night, specially, my voice sounds soft, high pitched and even childish, when I try to lower my pitch or just not speak loud, it just doesn't sound (sometimes it fries, sometimes it literally doesn't sound anything).

I was speaking a whole octave lower than my natural pitch (f3)! This almost always happens when I'm teaching guitar, especially to younger students who require more instruction. Voice ends up fried, gets better over the weekend. Never had any issue talking all day when I was working as a barman, then hanging out with friends until the early morning. So I really think that I go into this unnaturally deep voice whenever I feel like I have to seem more professional. Thank you so much for helping me realise this!
@PepperDeVillle Жыл бұрын
I do the opposite- talk about an octave higher than my normal voice, because girls get made fun of for having a low voice. People used to call me a dude, call me "sir" etc. I actually didn't mind "sir" lol. At least it's respectful. Anyway, I'm older now and don't give a crap what people think, so I think I'll try out my natural, deep voice.

@@omoriidrip project your voice louder. Ok so find your diaphram.it sits under your lungs. You feel it pull your ribcage outward when you take a deep breath. Take a deep and try to maintain that expanded ribcage feeling (also tighten your gut may help). Pick a word and practice with this feeling. Do it with confidence! If you hold back your voice will sound weak. Practice how you breathe and keep your ribcage expanded. If you start running out of air you voice will trail away. Now pick a sentence and practice. Pay attention to where you feel your voice and adjust until it sounds loud but not screaming, it should not hurt. Also stand straight and your face forward not down. Practice !

I'm a 5'8'' woman who is fairly non-feminine, am constantly tired, and I'm pretty sensitive to high pitched noises so I always speak lower than my normal pitch, I just never really thought about it until I heard recordings of my own voice and it sounded a lot different than what I'm used to. I'm always losing my voice despite talking in a quiet tone. This has made me realize I really just need to embrace my higher pitched voice. It's just so weird, I always thought of myself as an alto since I'm tall and I've got rbf and a very laid back personality, yet I have the voice of a bubbly young teenager. For reference, my natural humming tone was about 2 full steps higher than the humming in the video coming from a mezo soprano.
@singgeek4 жыл бұрын
Hi Trillium, thanks so much for sharing your experience. I hope this helps you to stop loosing your voice. Let me know how it goes 😊
@flav26892 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this! It confirms what I had suspected a long time. I'm really struggling with my voice. When I was a teenager (14-15 years old) I realised how irritatingly high and childish my voice was (I heard it on the tape and was absolutely mortified) Since then I've tried to lower my voice and now it's the only way I can speak. However it is completely destroying my voice - I cannot sing at all anymore and after speaking a bit more (like 30 minutes), even my speaking voice gets raspy and starts to vanish. It's a problem not only with my friends but also since my studies require quite a lot of talking. I study several foreign languages. When I get excited, surprised or irritated my voice rises like an octave. My family says that's about my natural voice I should speak with but I am not able to speak like that - it takes so much effort and feels weird. This saddens me and I'm afraid I can never sing again. I'm not trying to be a singer but I wish I could find and use my singing voice again - just for me, for fun - I used to sing a lot and I loved it. Also it would be nice to talk freely without damaging the voice. I don't know what to do...should I find a vocal coach or is it too late to fix this - or is the damage permanent already? I'm 26 now. If someone read all that - thank you. If you have any thoughts or tips, I'd appreciate a comment a lot!

I just found this out at 29 because I started seeing a vocal coach for a new job. It is not too late but you will definitely need a professional to work one on one with you and show you when you are using the wrong muscles or adding tension on your voice. It also takes a ton of practice to feel comfortable using your "new" voice, because while it has no strain it also requires more volume and can be hard to accept if you still have self conscious feelings about having a high voice. I wish you the best of luck and don't lose hope on the idea of enjoying your voice and singing along to life.

Your being so authentic, warm, and spontaneous as you share REALLY helps me! I think my best speaking voice happens when I forget myself and I'm unselfconsciously engaged and connected. I'm an aspiring voice actor. Unfortunately over the years anxiety has contributed to unhealthy vocal habits and dysphonia. So while my challenge is to practice and become attuned to healthy vocal techniques and sensations across a range of emotions and emotive interactions, until they become habitual; my greater challenge is to let go and embrace (at the conscious level, I seem better when I'm unselfconscious) a new more authentic expressive range, and therefore personal identity. This is the big issue the challenge of letting go and embracing this "new natural" authentic personal identity -- Do you have any videos on this? That's why I soooo appreciated your example of authentic, warm, and connected sharing!! It reminds me, by showing me what I should be reaching for.. And yes I have now subscribed. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK 💕

I always think people can hear me if I speak clearly, and also I've been afraid to scare kids since I've worked at a store lately, I like making people feel comfortable with me since I'm a listener, not a speaker. I wan to make permanent changes in my habit and give myself permissions to project properly. I've also had moments where my throat hurts because it can vibrate really harshly. This was very enlightening for that self permission. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart.

I've been following the dispute over good vs bad for a while. From a singing standpoint, my understanding is that since it is a "wet" protein it is considered a somewhat good source of protein in terms of hydration, however, I think the debate on eggs and cholesterol is more important. The latest research I heard on the news is that we should eat eggs in moderation because of the cholesterol in the yolk. Is this a debate you have been following?

In my case, it happens that all my life I have been a quite silent person. Moreover, in the last years, some events lowed my confidence and made me even more quiet. Now, it's like I forgot my voice and can't bring it out of myself (not sure if I'm explaining well). Indeed, when I yawn (because of air flowing freely?), I try and I hear my real voice, which thrills me and sometimes make me cry (of joy). I wish I could reconcile with my voice someday. These videos bring me hope. Thank you!

That’s weird, I’ve been speaking a whole lot higher than my natural voice all these years. Idk how imma implement this, it’s gonna throw off a lot of people

I sound different... When I speak in English even more with an accent , but if I try to speak in native language it sounds really that I was placed in alto in choir and yeah t Hat really hurt my throat like E3 note, but when my teacher in Music art physical education and health made us sing I was place in Soprano somehow when I sing... Yeah this solved the problem and yeah probably my family will be weirded on how I will speak now on...

Very Helpful thank you. I do talk lower than my normal tone, apparently. And more so, after speaking English 90% of my day as I have moved to an English speaking country a decade ago. I subscribed and have one suggestion\question: Does speaking in a different language from your mother tongue, change the tone unnaturally? And How to fix? (I suppose the fix maybe similar to this video but that maybe a good one :)

I'm a 17 year old boy. I'm having a vocal difficulty since the last 4 months. I noticed that I always speak in a very low pitch. I used to sing but now I can't because now my voice isn’t as normal as it should be. I can't speak in my chest voice. So I decided to stop speaking for a week to rest my voice. And then I will try the exercises given by you. Please let me know if it’s alright and suggest me of what I should do.

I think you're most likely going through puberty :/ so your voice might change pretty dramatically right now

i have to be really careful around people with accents because i really pick it up easily...i get worried that i suddenly have their accent mid conversation and they would think i was mocking them...but it's like LSS for me.

This has actually improved the way I speak, it sounds more natural and comfortable I just have trouble maintaining the voice, does anyone know a really good way of getting used to the pitch?
