I can imagine people in their 40s watching this movie remembering their own youth in the roaring 1920's, after surviving the Stock Market Crash, the Great Depression, WWII, and then in the 1950's raising families to compensate the massive loss their generation dealt with. They were my grandparents' generation, and Singin in the Rain was released as a retro movie to celebrate it, they had all reasons to feel happy. This movie was born an immediate classic.

I am studying filmmaking right now, and it is so impressive to me how one single scene can be so memorable to so many. I have never seen this movie, but know the scene immediately when the name is mentioned. Of all the joyful expressions in this song, the one that everyone remembers is Gene Kelly hanging on the streetlamp. Perhaps this is the essence of 'singing in the rain'... when you are so exuberant, you can turn something ordinary into something magnificent. Here's to all the people reading this in film school; let us never forget to use our imagination, so we can turn ordinary pages into something wonderful, for the benefit of all of us.

This is perhaps the one movie where I know this scene very well and have seen it countless times in my lifetime.
