Honestly, a lot of these technical errors weren't her fault (as was shown in the actual movie, Don was having a lot of the same audio problems with his scene) --also funny that no one ever also accuses Don of being a diva when he insisted on changing his lines to just "I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you," etc. They are both absolutely divas. But there is only so much an actor can do, Lina or Don, when microphone placement is just bad. They can't just talk into their shoulder or into a bush for the whole movie. As for her voice, her voice is actually really cute. It's very similar to Betty Boop or Harley Quinn. And she was fine with it. She said she liked her voice, she never asked for them to change it or dub her; they did it without her permission, didn't tell her they were doing it, didn't plan on telling her at all, and then to top it off, they were going to humiliate her by 1. dubbing her and letting her find out when the movie was released and 2. letting everyone else watching the movie know that she was dubbed. I feel like her response was pretty understandable given the circumstances. Her options were either 1. Let them get away with their plan to dub her without her consent and let them tell everyone that she was dubbed, probably ruining her career in the process 2. Let herself be dubbed, but do what she did and demand that it be a secret she was dubbed, in hopes of not having her career be ruined (and unfortunately in that case, logically she would've had to keep up the ruse by keeping Kathy as her voice, or else her career would absolutely be ruined as we see in the end of the movie) 3. Demand that the dubbing be removed and her natural voice be used (this probably would've been the best moral choice as the only people it would really hurt was herself maybe if people really didn't like her voice, and the film studio because of sales, which is honestly fine because they really screwed her over) or 4. Sue them, which probably would've ended up in the movie not being released and the studio losing a lot of money now granted, 3 and 4 hurts a lot of people vs just hurting one, but my point is, Lina's options here were very limited. She didn't do this to herself, she didn't wanted to be dubbed. I feel like she was acting in self preservation, which is natural. Granted, she fucked herself over when she decided to go out and give a speech. She rolled a 2 on intelligence in that moment.
@SonicXtreme99akaCreeperMario3 жыл бұрын
Bitch She kept moving her fucking head
@Blokewood32 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Lina's outrage over what the studio was planning was reasonable. The only thing she really did wrong was attempting to force Kathy into a shackling contract where she wouldn't be credited or be able to work on her own career. It's all sad and pointless when you realize that dubbing in films remained really common for decades, and plenty of actors weren't shamed for being dubbed. For example, Todd Armstron in Jason and the Argonauts, Ursula Andress in Dr. No and Gert Frobe in Goldfinger were dubbed, but people don't look down on them for that today. (But everything was all different in the 20s when sound was being introduced)
@scoutart15082 жыл бұрын
At the very least, Betty Boop sounds less ridiculous in execution than Lina’s squeaky voice
@quillmaurer6563 Жыл бұрын
Really have to have some sympathy for her - she was going to be screwed no matter what, wasn't really a good solution. But she could have been less of a jerk - that's what made her the villain. Arguably it wasn't her sort of reasonable reaction to this threat to her career (though she certainly could have handled it better) that made her the villain, but just that she was such a jerk the whole time regardless.

Sound and picture on films now are still separate elements that have to sync up. Today, the 1st AD would say, "Roll sound!" Then the sound guy would say, "Speed!" when he was ready, then the (digital) clap board comes in and the director says, "Action!" Afterwards, the sound guy picks up the ambient sound of the stage or room to use in editing, so everyone on set must be dead silent to record a minute of "room tone." Gosh, I love film-making. And I love this movie!
