Chad. Thank you for taking the time to make such videos. Really appreciate people like yourself. Great content. I've spent 3 hours now researching online and half of that watching your videos. So clear. I started my chef llc in January and with this video, just discovered I should be paying my taxes quarterly. Am I screwed haha? I also do not take any money out of my business account to pay myself as I was happy out watching it grow. Is this a mistake?

It's Q3 2024, and I'm doing research prior to starting my first business. I have no clue how much I can expect to make through the rest of the year. I am hoping to be able to take home 1k/month. I have a full-time job on W2. How would I estimate my taxes for paying ahead? I'm guessing I would need a few months of data to be able to make a projection. What would you recommend?

if you file married filing jointly and your spouse is a w2 employee and you are a single member llc. but you roughly only make about 25 k a year in your business and your spouse makes about 50 k what would be best a single member llc or an s corp, atleast to start off. Also, if you are a single member llc , lets say in the year you made 30 k that went into your business bank account and you paid yourself 15 k , you will be taxed on 30 k or 15 k as a schedule C? Also what can you deduct? Should you use your business account to pay certain things year round and can those things be counted as deductions???
@ChadPavelcpa
@ChadPavelcpa Жыл бұрын
If you have any doubts just start as an LLC. A corps have much higher standards and costs to maintain, so it’s not just a tax question. I’d stay as a single LLC and talk to a good cpa to help you determine if and when to move to a corp. once you own the LLC you can always switch it to S corp any time in the future.

Thank you for this! This clarifies a lot for me. So it looks like saving 30.6% of net income- the amount after operating expenses is deducted-should cover be enough to cover all tax taxes. Yes? And one other question. Is it correct that in the first year of an LLC, if you did not have any income prior to the year of business formation, that you do not need to pay estimated quarterly taxes the first year? I had zero income in Q1 and Q2, but I will have income for Q3 and Q4. Even if it’s not required the first year, I plan on paying estimated tax for Q3 and Q4. I’m not quite sure how to figure out what I owe federal and then what I owe state though. Probably good to have a tax professional but I was hoping to do myself initially.
@ChadPavelcpa
@ChadPavelcpa 2 жыл бұрын
Your actual tax due is based on many factors mainly all of your personal income and whatever tax deductions you have on your business and personal return. This video is just an illustrative example not actual numbers. Regarding your q1-q4 estimates: it’s all based on your total 2022 actual taxable income and your ultimate personal tax bracket…unfortunately without context you are best to go to a tax firm or use a tax estimate software. Thank you for your comment and questions Jason!

Hi I’m a nurse and I will be doing independent contract nursing (1099). I will work under my LLC only and will not be doing any w2 jobs. I have 3 questions: 1. Will the company pay my LLC or should the checks be written to me? Does it not matter? 2. Since I won’t have any w2 work. When I receive payment from the company, I just need to take out 15.3% for taxes? 3. Do I not pay taxes on the money I pay myself with since I’ve already paid the 15.3%? Gonna watch this video a few more times 😅
@ChadPavelcpa
@ChadPavelcpa 2 жыл бұрын
You’ll want checks made to your LLC. The taxes you will owe are both the 15.3% plus ordinary income taxes. Ordinary income taxes range from 0-37%. I’m working on another video that details how income taxes work. But to be 100% clear. The 15.3 is a separate tax you also owe income taxes.

How does the impact of reimbursing yourself for business expenses work? For example, I spend $100 on a printer, paid for by my personal credit card, that is for my single-member LLC business. How does this reimbursement flow through from a tax accounting perspective? Is it the same as if I paid myself?

@ChadPavelcpa

Glad this was helpful. On withholding tax - this is only required if you hire employees and put them on a w-2 payroll. Then you will need to withhold federal and state tax if you are in a taxable state.

If the SMLLC has a spouse working for the company, are those wages exempt from FUTA?
@ChadPavelcpa
@ChadPavelcpa Жыл бұрын
If spouse earned a w-2 or 1099 for wages, then spouse is either an employee or self employed (1099), paying own SE tax. There are ways to provide lower tax benefits to spouses, but in general, if you treat them as separate “employees” they pay the same taxes.

@ChadPavelcpa
@ChadPavelcpa Жыл бұрын
If you are speaking about a single member LLC that you own 100% of, then a) you shouldn't be taking a W-2 payroll and b) you pay all of your taxes (estimated taxes) as an individual on your form 1040, when you pay the IRS.

I have an LLC for a year now, but I have a regular job still. I’ve been making members contributions into my business account and using it to buy products. However, I have not made much profit. How can I add on the form that I have been making members contributions and I have not made any profit yet?
@ChadPavelcpa
@ChadPavelcpa Жыл бұрын
There is no place on the form to account for member contributions to a single member LLC. It is not relevant for single member LLC tax purposes. But if you have expenses related to those purchases then that gets you a deduction anyway.

Hi Chad. I have a regular 9-5. I breed dogs once a year and sell the puppies. I probably make $12k-16,000 from the pups as a side hustle. After expenses like food, vet bills and supplies, I probably profit only $5000 of it. Should I start an LLC?
@ChadPavelcpa
@ChadPavelcpa 2 жыл бұрын
An LLC will only help you to separate liability from you personally if you set up and operate the LLC correctly. It isn’t going to save you any taxes. If you’re worried about risk of being sued then an LLC could help you in this regard. If you have insurance to cover you then it sounds like you’d be OK without an LLC. But I’d check with a business attorney to see if you have exposure to risk that an LLC would mitigate.

If my LLC gets paid by a Company for work I do for them, who collects and or pays the Payroll taxes (Social Security)?
@ChadPavelcpa
@ChadPavelcpa 2 жыл бұрын
Only companies that have w-2 employees have payroll and social security, Medicare taxes to deal with. Is your LLC a single member LLC? If so then if your customers pay you 100,000 in a year. And if you have $20,000 expenses. $80,000 profit. You personally have 80,000 income that is taxed for both self employment tax and income tax. You don’t take a w-2 paycheck for a single Member LLC owner.

Great information. thank you! I started a part-time business in 2020 and have been reinvesting all profits back into the business. No leftover monies to pay taxes on - I haven't, however, been filing quarterly... I didn't know about this part until recently. What I am confused about is the process of calculating the deduction for SE taxes. Scenario: Gross income, $100k Businesses expenses, $20k Net income, $80k You have to pay 15.3% of $80k, yet you get to write off 7.65% of the 15.3%? Does that mean your true net income is $73,880 and this is the number the 15.3% SE tax, individual fed and state taxes are based off of?
@ChadPavelcpa

You basically nailed it. Check with your tax software to see how exactly it flows and calculates. But you are generally correct on how the se tax is consisted.

i have a full time job and it takes taxes out each paycheck so do i need to only go in and pay estimated quarterly taxes on business income because my w-2 job is doing it for me? Also does the single member llc business income only get taxed at 15.3% no matter how much money you make? It doesnt move tiers?
@ChadPavelcpa
@ChadPavelcpa 2 жыл бұрын
Your total taxable income includes w-2, LLC income etc. so if your w2 job plus LLC income results in more tax due than your w2 withholds then yes you will have more tax due when you file your taxes. So you will want to pay some estimates to cover the difference. Your LLC income if it is positive net income has two tax components. The first is 15.3% x the LLC income. The second is ordinary income tax that is subject to the tiered brackets. The tiers are based on ALL of your income (w2, LLC, etc).

I would call back the IRS and FAX in the same S Corp election form 2553 you sent if you still have a copy. If you don't, I would FAX (don't send)a new copy with the effective date you intended to. Tell them in the description box that you intended to be taxed as an S Corp as of x/x/xx, etc. attach another page if you need to show more proof. I would do that ASAP. Then call in two weeks later to the business hotline and have them give you a status update. If all fails, hire a CPA or Tax Attorney to assist.

If you don’t file online then you mail the federal to the address on your 1040 instructions. CT and NY will also provide instructions on where to send the return. You need a TIN to file a 1040 even if it’s not a SSN.
