Former SAW gunner here. I know a single point sling on a SAW was not practical, but the two point sling was such a pain in the ass during firefights. With my backpack, and gear, and the ballistic vest, I was constantly fumbling around to get that damn thing up and firing. Didn't help that I'm 5'5" and 150 lbs. But the new guy in my infantry platoon always got the SAW. Loved firing it, hated the logistics.

I carried an AK47 in Uruzgan, Afghanistan with a single point sling that I fashioned from a parachute strap. It gave me the flexibility to walk hands free, quickly be on target, and transition to another weapon platform. It was faster and less cumbersome than a two point sling. From a practical standpoint, I prefer a single point sling. Regardless of whichever you choose, it is important to practice with it to build up your muscle memory.

I use the Magpul where I can change from one point to two points. I also have VTAC slings on my other rifles. For me it's about having multiple tools in your bag, training on all that you have. As mission requirements dictate the situation. Just my opinion
@XrayMike17plus12 жыл бұрын
Yep. I have Blueforce and Magpul slings with the sliding sections to cinch down the slings. Magpul always seems to use codes to designate the slings that are difficult to remember. Did you buy the sling that way or get the adaptor piece to convert it? If you bought it that way do you recall designator code?

Changed my mind and opinion, not an easy task! We used 2-point slings back in the Navy for watch standing and I never really liked them, but I hadn't given much thought to how useful they actually are as opposed to the single-points. Here I was, set and ready to buy the plate and single-point sling, but now I think I'll grab a few swivel studs and a 2-point instead.

All a matter of preference, there is no "come one, be all" for slings. Whatever makes you feel comfortable to complete whatever mission is. Be it the range, home defense, etc... This is a good comparison of the two to help make an educated decision. Go to your local range and try them out. Ask if you can shoot with it equipped. Then buy the one that works best for you.
@UN12actual5 жыл бұрын
Preference is certainly part of it. But in reality I can’t think of a lot of pros to the single point for those that actually work with a rifle. Especially when he two point can do everything a single point can, but the single point falls far far short.
@KhaosWolf945 жыл бұрын
@@UN12actual would you agree that going to the range and requesting to try out different sling systems to see what best suits you, is a good idea?
@UN12actual5 жыл бұрын
I see your point of trying, but the reality is single point only does a couple of things well, otherwise they kinda suck for the majority of rifle work. I wouldn't bother wasting time with trying out a single sling

That’s a whole separate topic in a way. When I’ve done force on force and combative straining the sling changes things as you are attached to a really large handle for someone to grab and pull you around.
@larrywilliams79936 жыл бұрын
I like Vickers that attach to my LWRC DI. It attaches to the hole in the stock and have it on the side opposite if the ejection port. It attaches to the back side of the hand hold(behind the hand hold which also has hole for a quick mount. And you have a pull that you can tighten it up. Some slings are not comfortable and will hit you in the "stones" and can ruin your day.

I have to say the two point sling is actually way more versatile than G & T goes into. Check the "Ranger Rick" books for examples. The author is a lifetime vet w combat experience and the Ranger tab. His books are recommended reading for U.S. troops (at least until I cycled out, but much of his advise is still valid) and are (were?) readily available in base PX's across America.
