Fair assessment compared to polycarbonate. If you can stand to sink the investment in 10mm or 1/2 inch twin-wall polycarbonate it is amazingly resilient. Our smallholding is at a very exposed site. We had a door come adrift in a gale and found it about 100 yards away up against a hedge but it was OK. Also, the oldest of our polycarbonate is over 10 years old and there is no sign of yellowing or embrittlement even though some of it (the cold-frame sides for example) are exposed to sunlight on both sides for part of the year. We screw the 10mm polycarbonate to a heavy wooden frame at 12 inch spacings around the edge using 1 inch diameter washers to spread the load and have no issues at all even with the framing spaced at 41 inch centres.

On you double layer with the blower, do you also use it during the summer or only put a double layer on with the blower during winter?

... I have a double polly gh myself ... the added measure is snow melts off the double polly house ... so yes leave the blower on 24/7/365 ...they use minimal power ... also helps reduce wind /hail damage to your greenhouse ...

With our greenhouse in northern Maine, it would be 30 degrees outside, and with a single layer it would be 50-55 inside, but when we added a second layer we gained 25-30 more degrees or 75-85 in the sun.

@@RetreatfarmFarmvilleVirginia i have a polycarbonate green house in Maryland, i noticed the problem is the night. during sunny days i can get 50-60 in while it is 30 out, but at night it lose so much heat it is barely 32, 33, when it is 20 out, we really thought it would be warmer.

is there any reason not to frame it for two layers, like one layer inside the frame, one outside, instead of running fans 24/7?

With a simple modification you dont need to run the blower 24/7. You`ll save upto 80% in electrical power and extend the life of the blower considerably.
