I have been wrenching on bikes for 55 years. I need to say some things: 1) I learned stuff from watching this video, techniques 2) you are a master mechanic - I've seen a lot of guys do work and you are as good as any of them 3) your video work is excellent 4) this is the best bike repair video that I've seen in years Thank you

I like the way you bring the bicycle back to life 👍😎. Nice paint job. The bicycle would be way nicer, if it had multiple gears. Thanks for the video 👍😎.

Nice build! 80s and 90s MTBs deserve some love and respect. Just wondering if you have any build details to share? I really like the paint that you used. Reminds me of the color of the race car that Mauri Rose won the 1947 and 1948 Indy 500 with. What paint is that? Also wondering what handlebar that is? What rims and tires did you install?

I am digging this video so much. A classy ss build for a rusty old bike that surely was destined for a landfill. Excellent job. Also you found the right balance of including the right parts to shoot and edit and efficiently condensing several days/weeks of build labor in a tidy runtime. Great work!

Good job! Well cared for even in the details. I seem to see me when they bring me bikes that have been thrown away in the courtyard for years and I completely renew them. Unlike, however, I rigorously put the loose spheres, I take photos of the original writings of the bicycle and reproduce them and reapply them so that these details are not lost (a detail I care about very much). But out of these differences you have made a masterpiece I love it even in the details. I also like the geometry of this frame ❤ (too bad it's not disc brakes)

Clean build! Pretty sure you should tighten the stem adapter top cap bolt before the stem bolts on the steerer, to make sure the stem is seated all the way down :)

Have always bought bikes. Never built them. This is gonna sound weird, but I saw some fucked up stuff yesterday and really needed to clear my head and your video really helped me to do that. I admire your work, but more importantly, I’m thankful for the effect it bad on me. Subscribed now. Thanks.

Nice… but will the rust not come back if you leave him there before repaint job? I always thought it has to be completed removed so that it will come through the new paint.

I thought so too

I have a collection of old bikes, I restore them all myself, they are bikes that are decades old, I always remove all the old paint with paste remover so I don't excessively scratch the frame with a sander. Then I do an anticorrosive treatment on the frame before the new painting. Only when the old paint is well anchored and without traces of corrosion, I don't think it's necessary to remove all the old material.

Nice rebuild but a single speed makes it pretty useless for anything other than road biking as you’re going to struggle with any type of gradients. Also that rust will come back pretty quick if it wasn’t treated and I fear and the pitting on the metalwork at the rear was pretty severe so you’d have to wonder the longevity of the frame. Nicely presented though.

Bel lavoro!

I ride a GaryFIsher Genesis that looks a lot like this. I kept the old derailleur but it's blue with the drop bars and brown seats/tires. Dash Bicycle in Providence did it up for me.
@marinoviskovic7083 Жыл бұрын
it's ok, vintage Marin mtb frames are very good, only one detail, you should put some sort of shield between the frame and a grass when paint it and hope you were wearing a mask

Absolutely the best way to make money on restoring old bikes is to make YT videos. Because even if you could sell the bike later, it's nothing compared to the monetization of the work. And the bike will not sell anyway.

Fabulous color choice. Isn't there enough travel in dropout for 1/2 link of slack to tensiin chain? Why not skip the stem spacers? No preload happening there.

Great build .. but why a chain tensioner when the frame has verdict drops??
@acrowley6810 Жыл бұрын
Was wondering the same. I bet so the wheel can set as far back in the "horizontal" drops as possible and you dont have to worry about coming out of tension.. Cause with QR they will. Bolt on they will but just slower. So seating the wheel as far back in the drops as possible and adding a cool purple tension-er you dont have much worry.. Was thinking of doing the exact same thing cause with horizontals it either comes out of tension or starts to vear to a braking side.

I’m enjoying the bike so far kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.
