Probably underground water depletion from raising animals on farms...Apparently cows drink 100 gallons each a day, plus major drought and still happening...If everyone went more plant-based, probably less of this would happen...The large farms are the major culprit, i heard someone that owns a farm say...

​@@Dawn-zo2ny l don't live there now but spent most of my life in Morris County, if l had to take a guess I'd suspect it's due to underground mines from the early 1900s. There used to be lots of mining in North NJ and there's even a town called Mine Hill a couple towns from that very spot. There have also been numerous sink holes around Morris County over the past 10-20 years from old mine shafts underground.

For those wondering, it's I-80 just west of NJ-15. If you go to Street View there's a storm drain and an obvious recurring issue with the ground along the pavement over the years. Looks like every time the highway got paved they just pushed some more dirt/gravel onto the slope. Didn't look into or care why that section of road kept losing it.
