Sinking Funds: Setting them up? There isn't enough money?

Hey Guys,
Today's video is all about how I have decided to set up our sinking funds. We always ran into an issue of figuring out how to set aside money for our sinking funds and trying to keep them in a separate savings account. Well, I've abandoned that system and decided to use the cash envelope system for our sinking funds. This video might need a part two later on so I can share how much we end up adding to each envelope.

First I ❤ your hair. And I'm so glad I found this video because I was stressing about setting up multiple accounts for sinking funds. I no longer have to look for bank accounts that don't have monthly fees. I put a single dollar in each each pay just to get into the habit. It seems to be working some get 3 or 4 dollars now. I now know which ones are more important to me. I don't miss that money at all and it's too little to steal from. Lol

If you listen to Dave Ramsey or Rachel Cruze they say it usually takes up to 3 months for people to find their "rhythm" in budgeting and cash envelopes so you're fine. Keep doing it 🙂

I had to do the same thing. When the money was in an account (not my main account or bank) I knew it was assigned to something, but it was to easy to use. Having them in an envelope with a name on it, makes it more restricted. I don’t know why. Before I did move the money to envelopes I did think about moving it to our savings, but didn’t want to mix that money up either.

What’s the difference with emergency funds and sinking funds?

Sinking funds usually fall into 2 categories. Unexpected Expenses that you know will happen at some point (think... auto repairs) or Expected Expenses that don’t occur every single month (think.... Christmas and Birthdays). We save a little each month so these items don’t catch us off guard. Emergency fund is for extreme emergencies like losing a job. The goal is to save 3-6 month

my sinking fund is my animals and my garden so as my stash f seeds. my only bill i will need to pay is 20 dollars yearly property tax and i can pay that by selling a few chickens and eggs. there is no such thing as inflation of funds when you homestead, live off grid, and your house is man made and paid in full with no monthly expenses. when SHTF happens i will be good to go
