Hi there - Id like to answer the issue with the oil cap: Whilst we recognise this is due the the high rise exhaust, you can actually remove the oil cap without issue and as long as you use a jug with flexi end, or indeed oil container with flexible end (such as Motorex 1L oils) there is no problems with clearance. Its not as simple as many other bikes, we agree but it is easily "doable" with the correct container. The Triumph Scrambler has a similar issue with clearance. Great video Mr Flyer, and glad you loved the bike so much.

Agreed Bernie my first Japanese bike was in 1973 and I was very sceptical but it proved to be bullet proof however the higher performance bikes did have a limited life my brothers Honda CB K1 was shot after 39000 . However he rode it hard. Nowadays they are so much better

What really stands out for me is the point you make about maintenance/care. Some folks give Chinese bikes a lot of stick due to fit and finish quickly going off with corrosion showing on bolts/surfaces etc. I think if you are realistic with your initial expectations and always clean and apply ACF-50 etc you really can keep the bikes looking good. Another great review 👍🏼

I think you've hit the nail on the head Tom, you have to look after these bikes like any other, not just treat them as a "disposable" machine...
@AustinArto
@AustinArto 11 ай бұрын
Sinnis used this rolling chassis (with different forks) for a 250 cc variant called the Retrostar. The power-to-weight ratio is even more impressive, and my example is still going strong after five years with few issues. Yes, ACF50 will preserve a bike.

There’s quite a few people here with channels giving advice on motorbikes with only a few years of experience which is sad because new bikers follow that advice. But you have got ample experience and it shows. I’ve been riding for 35 years of which 2 years on a 50cc and about 15 years during winter as well and I find your reviews interesting and informative. Keep it up!

I've been waiting for this review for a while, because I've needed something to validate my desire to come to the UK and get a Mutt! There's a seemingly huge market, with a ton of manufacturers, for these "small" Chinese-sourced bikes. In the US, there just aren't many bike in this category.

Great review as always. Would be Interested to know how many miles you covered over the seven month period to put the usage into a wider context. Also as a point of reference the scrambler with the same spec as your demo is listed on the Sinnis website for £2349.00 a whopping 30% + difference over your suggested price of £1695.00 which might be enough to make it look less of a bargain for many.

WOW! Your energy levels are Phenomenal Mr Flyer! All this time watching your vlogs, as you ride hundreds of bikes, & in the background you had this for 7 months! I take my hat off to you sir! Remarkable! These are the vids that slaughter the professional bike reviewers. They go on with technical jargon & how it works, & no negativity as no other manufacturer will let them review their bikes. Then you get a bloke that loves bikes, combined with the energy of a nuclear power plant, & you get this true down to earth view through another persons eyes on how the bike will be. You then jump on the bike at a dealership, start riding, & wham! Look at that, just like MrFlyer said it would. Luv it!!! Good onya groover! Luv ya work! ;-)

13 front sprocket and 42 rear sprocket. You will go much better and will accelerate upto 65mph easily. Even up hill. You will also get a sweet spot around the 40 mph area, ideal for overtaking. And the first gear becomes really short, but you will always pull away at the front of traffic lights.

Great honest review on a nice bike. The exhaust burning your leg and having to remove it to take the oil filler cap off shows lack of development. I would also change the nylon tyres for branded road tyres. In 10 years we' all be buying Chinese bikes... or electric.

I've always been prepared to look down my nose at these Chinese bikes, but Sinnis have come up with some nice little machines including a 125 'Adventure bike complete with hard luggage. At these prices, what's not to like? The purchase price is more than the depreciation on some second hand bikes used for urban commuting.

Nothing wrong with Chinese bikes. Nearly every problem is usually down to owner negligence. Pretty much every other bike manufacturer has their bikes made in China, so that is a lot of bikes to lose out on if you do have a problem with them! Great review!

In snow/ice/mud lower the tyre pressures to 12psi ish which will increase grip as it also increases the contact area. Obviously your speed needs to be much slower and use body to a) keep bike upright and b) move weight fore/aft to put weight over back wheel or as needed... Then it is a much more pleasant ride and you'll get through surprisingly difficult conditions. Good luck!

People generally knock Chinese bikes and scooters, but honestly you get what you put in. That goes for every bike. If you use premium brand oil (bike is cheap so you can afford it) and keep it clean and lubed, it won't give out on you and will serve you well for quite a long time. I know for a fact Chinese scooters are big in Britain and people ride them for tens of thousands of miles.

Just catching up on this video in 2020. I have to say it's probably a nicer bike than my first bike! A Kawasaki KE100. The build quality is probably better too. I had Cheng-Shin's finest tyres on mine and they could skid in the dry! I was 19 at the time and skint but it was great transport. This bike looks perfectly acceptable and you certainly kept it looking remarkably clean throughout your 7 months!

Sinnis have made a reasonable point about the oil filler and a lot of new products, bikes included, sometimes need a bit of development, but that exhaust ‘run’ is definitely something they should work on in the future. You can defend it on a new product but you couldn’t defend it in five years time!

Some (silly) people used to slag off the old MZ 125's years ago. Used one for three winter's of dispatch in london and home counties as a lad and it was superb - this is a similar issue I expect but I doubt it pulls away as quick as the little 2 stroke which saw off CG 125's up to 60mph then they had about 5mph more than me. I've got several bikes including a1200 cafe racer and an 800 adventure but would consider this as a jump on commuter and local runaround. Sinnis should get someone to take one to Mongolia or something (I am volunteering!).

Best of luck finding a replacement exhaust for this bike, outside of buying one from Sinnis (assuming this motor is used in their other 125cc bikes) It's so small I don't see how it could take up enough room in your garage to not make an offer on it :) Great video as always.

I would take the bike to the local steel fabricators or even a decent exhaust shop. They would sort out new pipe arrangement, use the existing exhaust flange and weld on new pipe section. It's a slip on silencer, quite easy job. Lot of bike for the money

Nice vid thanks. Now then, I have 40 + years of riding British, Jap, American and European bikes, Have recently owned and ridden 2 Chinese bikes. 1 liffan 6 years old 100km on the clock and 1 pioneer 10 year old 3,000km on the clock both had same problems, Head stock bearings crushed and wiring not protected from damp or abrasion also front brake shoes were made of marmite and the welding on both frames was terrible allowing rust to form under the paint. Also the chrome on the forks was so thin that rust blisters had formed within an inch of the seals, So there's £1000 worth of problems to fix if you appreciate your bike mechanic. Exhaust on both bikes were rusted through and the chains were almost shredded. So if you have a new one, check the nuts and bolts if you have an older one, like 10 years assume the worse. I currently ride a Japanese 83 Virago I would be very surprised to find a 20 year old Chinese bike still on the road. They are rust buckets and require knowledge beyond today's youngsters to keep them safe for longer than the warranty.

It may be different in the UK, but here in the US where we've imported a lot of Chinese scooters it has been very difficult or impossible to bet replacement parts for some brands.

Excellent and comprehensive review. Glad Sinnis chimed in on the oil cap issue, not as bad as it first seems perhaps. But do note as someone else commented here that the RRP is currently listed on the website at around £2350 not £1695... maybe they can offer a TMF discount ;-)

Yes the £1695 was for the pre Euro 4 carb'd model - apologies, my bad....

One thing I would have mentioned is fuel consumption. My MT125 can get 120mpg and normally costs less than a tenner to fill unless I’m proper running on fumes. 125cc’s in general are great wee fuel munchers.
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 6 жыл бұрын
Yes should have mentioned that - I was pretty much ragging it everywhere and got around 90mpg....I'm sure it would do better with less of a heavy throttle hand....

Really appreciate your videos. One of the best reviewers of bikes I've come across and I've been looking at a lot recently. I'm planning to purchase my very first bike beginning of spring. I'm looking at the Mutt Hilts 125. I love the style of their bikes. Out of curiosity, what would you advise to be the best 125cc scrambler on the market for a first bike? Thanks again for your videos 👍

Decent little motor. I agree, if you look after your bike/s they’ll serve you better. By the way, watching you in the snow was a hoot. The part where you had to put your feet down and the bike going from left to right as you walked it along was so funny. And no-one can say you’re a fair weather biker, it looked pretty nasty. Cheers

An excellent review as always. Most Chinese bikes I have seen do tend to look tatty quickly but I agree this is almost certainly due to lack of care. Some of the more expensive Japanese 125s are only rebadged versions anyway ( Yamaha 125 is the same as the Honley for example but several hundred pounds more). I have ridden a Chinese 125 as a commuter for 2 years and they make for very cheap transport. I've also ridden in much worse snow than that though I wouldn't recommend it. 😀

Exhaust removal to fill oil lol , absolute insanity!
@SinnisMotorcyclesOfficial
@SinnisMotorcyclesOfficial 6 жыл бұрын
Whilst we recognise this is due the the high rise exhaust, you can actually remove the oil cap without issue and as long as you use a jug with flexi end, or indeed oil container with flexible end (such as Motorex 1L oils) there is no problems with clearance.

Nobody sees that it has no overhead cam. It has pushrods! It can not rev to 10000 rpm. Engine is a Honda copy from the sg 125. No chain, no tensioner , very reliable. Greetings!

Been waiting all winter for this. Also, in regards to sitting on the bike whilst filling: I used to work in a petrol station many moons ago and if you sit on the bike with your helmet on, it looks like you're looking to make a quick exit, ie without paying. Some petrol stations won't activate the pump if you're on the bike or wearing a helmet for this reason.
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 6 жыл бұрын
Yes good point (although I've never had that happen)...
@SweatyThumbsticks
@SweatyThumbsticks 6 жыл бұрын
TheMissendenFlyer It's unlikely to be enforced as most petrol station workers don't want to be there and don't really care enough. At least that's how I saw it! Also doesn't apply to pay at the pump, as that's all automated and doesn't require any authorisation from the staff.

Sweaty Thumbsticks Almost all pumps in the US are prepay. You can go inside and prepay, or use your credit card at the pump.

Those GN Suzukis will be good for sixty thousand miles if it gets a regular oil change. Then A valve grind, and maybe rings. But a trick I learnt on my 400 Honda twin, was add a capful of Wynns in with the oil. after sixty thousand their was not even a hint of a ring ridge and the bore was measured up at standard with no wear. If I put two capfuls in I would get clutch slip, but it might be less in these as theirs only a litre of oil, a lot less than the Honda.

Great gentlemanly review, TMF. Despite the pros you’ve delineated, the oil filler location inaccessibility behind the exhaust is a showstopper I suppose. Any idea of their sales in the UK? I’m not sure if they’ve made it to the US. Bravo to you on the snow ride! Cheers. 🏍👍🏍

The best thing about this is it looks great and with a push bike price tag on the bars. Ideal for Newbies, short haul, town. Would be more tempted with a few more horses under the bonnet. A fuel injected 250 unit out of the Retrostar model ? (Suzuki Unit) in the scrambler guise would be very interesting. Loved your ski Sunday part of the video :) So as to corrosion on fixings and bolts all good?
