India’s weakly equipped forward post beyond the McMahon line in (NEFA) in the east was overrun by the Chinese to the shock of Nehru’s and his advisers in Delhi. A series of rapid Chinese attacks - from 20th Oct’62 - followed on Indian positions in Khinzame, Thang la and Nam ka Chu, eliciting a feeble response by Indian troops in some cases, while in others they chose to defy defeat, onto death, when fierce battles were fought by Indian troops with whatever they could muster up, even sticks and stones! But India’s defences kept crumbling in NEFA under the sheer volume and force of Chinese attacks. However, the blame for this debacle must go to India’s army commanders. Defence Analyst & Consulting Editor of Times Network Maroof Raza brings you a series that will look at the several wars that India has fought since 1947.
