I’ve had a few Vauxhalls many moons ago from this era (when they weren’t too old) and the fit and finish was a bit sketchy, however great cars and reliable, this is such a cool old cavalier, had quite a few cavalier models back in the days, loved them, 2.0i was a favourite while the 1.6L was basic yet sweet mechanicals in them.

My dad had an almost identical car same colour, spec and year, brings back memories. When you said about the instrument cluster not fitting correctly, his didn’t either. It used to annoy me!!

Quality tinkering, to quote another KZbinr!

Hi! If that odometer pinion goes bad again, take it to a hobby shop and see if you can find something for an RC Car, maybe something for a Tamiya, they are definitely stronger than the original one.

Great video on the mk2 cavalier, i had an A reg back in 1988. that particular engine did have automatic choke and camshaft issues , mine had a manual choke but i did have to replace the camshaft along with the water pump & cambelt at the same time 😊

To take the original radio out you need to remove the knobs, then the fascia, then you can get to the two clip things

I was thinking exactly the same from the start!😃

I will check with both of my Cavaliers, my 1986 one bows a little at the top, I think it’s years of heat exposure, my 1984 doesn’t as this on,y has 17K on the clock and it’s been under a cover most of its life.

The way to take those types of radio off is to pull off the knobs and you'll find some on the knobs. Remove the nuts and the radio front plate will come free. Then just pull the radio out. you can then remove the DIN-D adaptor as there is a radio shaped hole to gain access from.

Lots of good progress here! I like the replacement radio - doesn't look out of place in there. Really love this car and your fleet!

You could actually have that model in the cavalier I think it was the slightly later GL about 1985 that model would have had a Philips 391 MW/LW push button as standard that Philips radio cassette was an extra cost option

Good radio from 1984-1986 cavaliers. You should get some fischer c-box cassette holders so you can listen to Level 42 and Ozric Tentacles for a greater 80's Cavalier experience!

Well done Sion a great video on the cavalier and some good improvements! I remember those radios dad had one in one of his and made a similar upgrade to a FM one and lots of shouting and swearing to get it out 😂 That’s a nice sounding radio they were fitted new to upper spec cavaliers slightly newer than yours ! One of dads astras had one fitted On the instrument panel I am not surprised as some of dads Vauxhalls had build issues from new it may be to try what I saw in one comment about the steering column cowl to line it up Well done on the window repair and fuel line repair they did have issues with the glass dropping one of dads had to be adjusted Hope it’s running well now did you sort the pierburg carb out and the auto choke? Glad to see it out and on the road bet it turned heads! All the best Daniel

Nice work - try it on the motorway to see how it cruises compared to your other cars?

Great work. Would removing the two halves of the steering column cowl allow you position the instrument cluster then refit the steering column cowl, which is the normal dismantling process on most Vauxhalls of this period?
@MorselsAndMotors8 ай бұрын
It’s possible. I may need to remove the cowl anyway as it’s rubbing against the steering wheel, so it may be located wrongly
@tintintintin76498 ай бұрын
Excellent video thanks. Do you plan to clean up the wheels?

The dashboard finish have been exactly the same on both the two Asconas I've had, no idea if its wear and tear or 'by design' - at least its not cracked like mine
@MorselsAndMotors8 ай бұрын
That’s interesting to note, thank you. Yeah I’m SO lucky my dash isn’t cracked!
