Had this done on my left knee (getting ready for my right knee, I have a hx of dislocations on both knees) and my biggest recommendation is bending as soon as possible. Constantly bend your knee back and forth and just keep working that sucker. Use your pain meds, move your knee, and stay on top of your physical therapy are my greatest recommendations.

Had this done. 6-9 month recovery with physio. In and out of the hospital in 1 day. I recommend that you pee before going to bed because for the next 3 days when you wake up in the night when the medication has worn off, you will experience some of the worst throbbing pain and heat in your knee. I would also likely take the pain killers as soon as you wake up in the night because the pain will keep you up or wake you up for the first few nights quite consistently. However, 6 months have gone by and things are looking much better. Edit - wow I can’t believe it’s already been 4 years now. Wish I would have been more in-depth for others but it looks like some others were which is nice. For myself, it took about two years to get fully back although I’m sure it could have been a year and a half for others. Don’t regret it even though the pain in the beginning was intense. The numb areas around the knee were noticeable and annoying at first but it’s completely normal to me now - don’t even notice it. However, the cracking sounds when bending with weight on it is quite loud but overall everything is holding up fantastic!

I'm 3 weeks post op now and can weight-bare with my brace unlocked at 30 degrees. Most I can get it to bend right now is 93 degrees. Getting my right knee done later. I was shocked at how much higher up my right leg sits altogether when compared to my left one bent at the same angle after surgery! It's like 2 and a half inches lower and the back of my leg is lower as well. It's so odd. It looks like my right knee is wearing a top hat compared to the left one post surgery lol but yes, incredibly painful. I have fibromyalgia and wasn't given good enough pain killers. Both my legs were spasming uncontrollably on day 4 post op for a solid 10-15 minutes because of the pain in my left one (most likely due to fibromyalgia interfering with recovery; this isn't common for everyone). It was incredibly intense pain. Took me 15 minutes to walk across the hall to the bathroom and back the first week after surgery.

I just had this done about two months ago. I was born with a genetic condition where my joints are naturally flexible and i was very prone to dislocating anything. We didn't know i had this condition until i completely dislocated my left knee two years ago jump roping in gym. I had dislocated my knees before (not knowing it was dislocating). At the time when i dislocated it two years ago i figured i would jerk my leg and my knee would be fine (again not knowing it was dislocated) but it was so hard to get back in and really painful. Luckily i had to go to my orthopedist the same day for my back and i will never forget what the doctor said to me when he walked in. He had said "Your back looks fine. What did u do to your knee because u dislocated it!" After That i went on and did pt. A couple months later i was walking and my other knee dislocated as well. Did the same thing went to pt and life was ok. This year i dislocated my left knee once again and i figured i would do the same thing go to pt. But it kept partially dislocating. Like multiple times in my sleep. At that point my orthopedist sent me to another orthopedist who specializes more in knees. Thats when i got my surgery done praying my left knee will never dislocate again. The first week was awful with pain but i got through it and started kicking ass in pt but after the 2 month mark pt gets rough but, Im most likely getting my other knee done too but Anyways im telling u this for anyone who is also struggling with this is that your not alone :).

I do running, ive been running for about a month now but just started skipping, side shuffles, jumping and balancing skills. So far my knee hasn't dislocated yet but im at a more greater risk of dislocating it again because I've dislocated it so many times

same story but got it done just yesterday. it hurts so fucking much but with painkillers its kind of tolerable. i have a question if there is anyone who knows the procedure for this surgery, is the tissue thats used in place of the harmed one synthetic or a muscle tissue ? in my case they used a muscle tissue from my leg but on the internet i have seen many pictures that looks like they are using an elastic band or something similar. im wondering if there is such a thing and if there is which method is better to prevent future dislocations?

Had this done recently and heard a lot of complaints about the pain in sitting or laying down, needing to stand every few minutes. I HIGHLY recommend the CPM machine, which keeps your leg in constant motion, bending at the knee. You can even set the range of motion digitally. I sleep with it, ice with it, use it whenever I'm hurting and it's instant relief. This recovery would have been miserable without it.

I had this in October, and standing up for the first time is so painful then trying to walk is very difficult. Also bending after surgery is probably one of the most painful parts but my recovery was pretty good I was only out for about 2 weeks then went to physically therapy which helped a lot and now it’s February and I’m basically back to normal except for running it still a little difficult.
@swagzillaization
@swagzillaization 8 жыл бұрын
Just got this done. I had a history of lateral dislocations in my left knee starting out with two partial dislocations over the span of a year and a half. After that I healed pretty well with just physical therapy and was solid for 3.5 years where I was legit playing everything at about 90%-95%. Last year I dislocated it while playing basketball (sidestepping, guarding on a layup) completely where my entire patella was on the side of my leg and i had to relocate myself. Pain was unbearable so I basically punched it in. Year went by where I figured i could give a 110% at pt and walk away from it but the reality of the situation is that I had teared my mpfl completely and was essentially relying on my quad muscle to hold it in place. That prevented me from growing my quad significantly and inhibited my recovery. Reason why I decided to share is because I want to encourage those on the fence to really consider doing it if you are in a similar situation to me. Once your mpfl is torn it is very unlikely that it will heal. I'm saying all of this based on not knowing how I will heal but for me it was basically a risk worth taking. Either I went with the surgery and healed or ended up the way i was before. Only regret is not doing it a year ago as of now but hey everything seems like an easy decision in retrospect

Elliot action sports you still might have to get it in the future 😪 (depending on how much your tendon has stretched) I experienced three dislocations and the third one was the “straw that broke the camel’a back” I dislocated my knee, tore my ligament, and a partial piece of bone was snatched off (ouch). The doctors tried skipping surgery but at that point my MPFL was trashed so I convinced them that surgery was the best choice. If you play sports, try using knee braces as much as possible

I think this is what I had done about 13 years old (5,5 years ago) and I walked again after 6 weeks. It was a struggle the first few days as I did not react well to the morphine I got so I was struggeling to eat the first 4 days, even the smell of food made me throw up🙈 I slowly but surely recovered, was allowed to bend my knee more and more, and my knee doesn’t pop out of place any longer😍 the other knee on the other hand can bother me sometimes, but it has been a while since it popped out now luckily. Hoping that I won’t need another surgery like this 🙈

@ILoveZoophilia

during this operation, nerves will inevitably be cut over aswell. It takes a long time for the nerves to grow back together properly. Meanwhile, touching certain areas of the skin close to the nerve, might cause some nerve-disturbances (ie. tingeling, numbness etc.) over the entire knee. Your brace might be touching the scar on the medial/lower site of the knee causing these disturbances. If that this is the case, it is completely harmless. But ofc, its impossible to diagnose from so little info

Had both knees done, one in 2014 and another in 2020. The one in 2014 was just the mpfl but the one in 2020 was the mpfl and they grinded down the bone where the knee cap sits. Best things I can recommend are going on pain meds taking one before you sleep and one as soon as you wake up. You will wake up in intense pain. But at the same time I recommend trying to get off the pain meds as soon as possible because they plug you up good... besides that general icing and keeping it elevated. I'm currently about 1 week into pt for the second one. When pt starts you can feel yourself getting better every week.

@@maximiliendjanguirov9296 I just got it done 4 weeks ago on my left knee. The first week after the surgery honestly sucks since you can barely get up at all. It also hurts pretty bad, and you will feel really tired (because of the pain meds), and you can’t take a shower either because of your bandages. Right now I have been doing PT for three weeks, and I can walk with the brace on full extension, and bend my knee 90 degrees. It doesn’t really hurt anymore either. I just had this done today. They did a nerve block on my knee as well as Profofol instead of traditional anesthesia. The nerve block was injected my the anesthesiologist right before surgery with an ultrasound guided needle.. Then bc of my history of nausea, they decided on Profofol to put me under just like general anesthesia. I woke up in recovery with no nausea and was pretty alert. The surgery was about 1.5 or 2 hrs. My first time trying to toe-touch with crutches to go to the restroom was pretty excruciating but it is already getting easier. I'm on percocet, zofran if needed, and lovenox injections til I go for my post op appt next Friday. I am in a knee immobilizer. Best wishes to you!! It is going to be ok!

Just found out yesterday that I need this procedure. Anyone who has had this done; what’s the recovery like?
@tinabencic
@tinabencic 2 жыл бұрын
I think the recovery is based on how each body react to it, if you know what i mean. Someone is going to be standing in two days for a little bit, and someone would not be able to walk for a week or two, it really just depends on how your body react to it. Idk what kind of anesthesia will you get, but i got epidural, i was numb from waist to toes. And the first 24 hours post op you will be in very strong pain adding on that you can't move or like sit up. And that first night after surgery you get no sleep cuz of the pain. I was in hospital for a week, and it was the worst week of my life cuz there were no visitor cuz of covid. Basically you will be in a lot of pain but with medication it's gonna be fine, the first time I tried to walk I started to get dizzy so I had to lay back down, the second time I did three steps. It will really be a challenge to walk again, and your hands will hurt cuz of the crutches. I had IV in my hand so it was hurting even more, if you get stitches, in 2 weeks you're getting them out. Just drink a lot of water, and you will get therapies, that is a struggle, cuz it kinda feels like your knee is stuck. But dont worry in like 3/4 days you will be able to kinda walk on crutches. And you will be very slow hahahaha like a grandma lol. But that's fine, it takes time for body to regain the strenght. It will be a wild ride but dont be afraid, everything will get back on its own eventually. You got this.💪

I also had my tiba broken so my pain is more than just this surgery but its still a 10/10. Youre gonna be in alot of pain when you get up to go to the toilet because the blood will rush through your whole leg and it will hurt.
