3:1 mix of Genepy and Chartreuse Vegetal is my go-to Green Chartreuse replacement if I'm really trying to nail the Chartreuse flavor profile. If my math is correct it should be close to 55% ABV. Give it a shot!

I’ve just been adding a few dashes of vegetal, but 3:1 sounds like the move, really get that flavor in there. Thanks!

Genepy is, in fact, its own category of liqueur. But the Dolin Genepy de Chamois is the only brand that has widespread availability in the U.S., so it tends to be thought of as a singular thing. Much like how Fernet is an entire category, but anyone asking for "fernet" in America is most likely referring to Fernet Branca.

Yes! Totally agree. Dolin is the only one I can get

The Végétal is really interesting. It does work well in a gin cocktail, and is also pretty fun in a tiki format (probably without allspice dram as an ingredient). It’s like Chartreuse bitters.

Oh a tiki direction would be fun. So many options!

Fascinating experiment with your sister-in-law - what a lovely person! The Faccia Bruto is definitely boozy. I like it but it's not the best Chartreuse alternative. Your conclusions are awesome! Terrific video Pete!! Cheers!! 🙂

I picked up some Vegetal in Memphis, TN, have seen it in Little Rock, AR at a couple of liquor stores, and in STL at several places. The Vegetal certainly appears to be more widely available, at least around the stores that I frequent. I wish that I could find a bottle of green or yellow Chartreuse, but it seems to me that, even in major metropolitan areas, the only places able to procure the spirit are specialty bars. To know now that Genepy and Vegetal make for a delightful sub, I’ll hopefully be able to pick some up this weekend. I’ve been eyeing the Genepy for a while, but y’all have twisted my arm with this video. 🤣

I have not heard of that before. But my recipe for a Gin Oldfashioned is: 2 Oz Gin .25 Oz lavender syrup 1-2 barspoons Fernet Branca 1-2 drops Orange blossom water Lemon peel to express and garnish. 😋💐

Good morning. There is Bénédictine which resembles Chartreuse with the same herbaceous flavor, less intense but more delicious because it has rested for a few months in oak barrels. I really like it for half the price of Chartreuse
@UnclePete11 ай бұрын
I mean, Benedictine doesn't taste anything like chartreuse, so not really a good substitute. It is delicious though.
@OldCootProductReviews4 ай бұрын
You're way off if you're referring to Benedictine D. O. M. Liqueur. I did a video about it myself. It's orange flavor... 90% orange forward. You're lucky if you taste maybe 10% any kind of herbal notes.

What plant in Bénédictine? Bénédictine liqueur is made from twenty-seven plants and spices from four parts of the world. Angelica, hyssop, juniper, yrrh, saffron, arnica, cinnamon (the complete list is a closely guarded secret!).
