We have to pay tax on everything irrespective of type of shares.. if the capital gains in 1 year is less than 1 lakh then no tax if it's more than 1 lakh flat 15% irrespective of income slab

They are different taxes for different types of mutual funds and on the holding period. Equity funds less than 1 year holding is taxed at 15% and more than 1 year holding taxed at 10%, but only if profit is greater than 1 Lakh in financial year. This 1 lakh includes all equity mutual funds and stocks profit also. Debt funds irrespective of holding period are taxed at tac slab rate.
