Fellow Yognaughts, Sips (if you're interested) I think I have a slightly more efficient set-up. I turned the area just in front of the rift forward until the end of the overhead where Sips had his haymakers set up into a killzone. I used the swinging mace, tar, arrow walls, the little Simons and barricades to funnel them through one half of one arch and spammed Simons behind it, got 5 skulls on every difficulty, hope this helps someone out. :D

Sappers will target whatever player, guardian, or barricade is closest to it at any given point in time, so placing dummy barricades closer to sapper spawn points is a good way to draw them away from the barricades you don't want blown up. Just make sure the dummy barricade is in a place you can easily monitor. Also, grinders annihilate kobold runners and sappers.

Get the brimstone floor trap! It's a worthy alternative to spike traps, and kills the sappers instantly, while they've got a chance to run over the spike trap unscathed.

Sips Sappers go for the nearest Barricade, you could have set one up further up on the bottom and they would have all gone there instead of destroying the upper levels and all would have funneled through the middle bit, it makes Passages really easy and you get some crazy combos.

The sappers weren't a problem because they always came down the middle straight for my barricades and into my maces, where they mired with everything else and killed a lot of orcs. :D

The only way to stop the timer once it starts (short of beating the level) is to pause the game. The timer does not stop during go breaks. If you'd like to check this for yourself, go to Options --> Gameplay --> Show Timer and turn it on. Your timer will appear below your mini-map.

Sips- try using tar pits under the haymakers, the slow+continued damage is sweet. If you also put a spiked wall trap next to them [and maybe arrow walls in the path just before the haymakers], it makes an amazing choke. :]

also if you upgrade your arrow walls so that they go on the ceiling you can put them above tar traps to slow the runners down letting the arrow walls hit them

if you put barricades at the bottom of the stairs the sappers win't go upstairs and it will also cause all the orcs that go upstairs to go down the same path at the closest left door which gives a lot of time to kill all the orcs that stay at the bottom and the spike walls are very good under the bridge with the tar traps to slow them down then you can just hold the bridge

You're only have to get a single unique upgrade. Once you get one of the unique upgrades for a trap/weapon, you're able to get the other one free. But you lose the one you had before.

You could also just put brimstone near the barricades, the sappers are the only enemies that will walk all the way to the barricades.

sips, some tips for your time you have no idea how to use the stone staff. Its primary costs no mana, but is a weak rapid fire penetrating attack. Stoned enemies take extra damage from the primary attack. You can stone any enemy except the flyers. also the lightning ring is amazing against trols. The slow upgrade for the lightning ring is great against sappers and runners

When I did that level I had 2 swinging maces and tar traps in the under tunnel and Arrow walls along with dwarfs and I protected uptop with auto ballistias and swinging maces ( which are by far my favourite trap) it worked out quite good but some got through

It might be better to put the spike wall where you put your arrow walls instead, that way they push the orcs back into the trap gauntlet. (Rather than pushing them outside of it)

the dwarven missiles flak shot is very very effective at killing kobolds and sappers. i love it for killing them and tar trap with lingering effect then spike traps behind them are also good at killing sappers.

if you use pushers with extended range on the uper floors you can launch the sappers and when they hit the ground they explode, killing some orcs, it's pretty good
