These were the days when Roots dub Sound would regularly clash with a rubadub sound. The youngers in the dance would more love the Dub sound (Shaka), the olders in the dance would love the rubadub sound (Coxsone). I loved both these sounds over the years as I grew from a younger when Shaka had my full attention in the dance, into an older, when I began to appreciate Coxsone more and more. This recording marks that period for me, where I was transitioning from Shaka disciple, into a more Coxsone lover. Give thanks for this excellent archival record of the time... Props

Real talk. U get the best of both worlds when Coxsone and Jah Shaka link up. I often said back in dem days that the clash didnt really make much sense cuz coxsone a rub a dub sound and Jah Shaka a pure dub. But jah know star a 2 of the greatest sound ever in a dancehall

@@ElNumeroUno777 lol far from truth. Just because he didn’t play dem didn’t mean he didn’t have it.. Shaka had same link from king Tubby’s and leroy of channel one studio like Lloyd and Festus had.

@@colinchristopher432 Coxsone as well as well as sounds like Fatman, QC, Lord President, Mafiatone etc etc was going Ja. to the studios for unreleased music. Shaka wasnt checking king tubbys or channel one studios in 70s. He played a lot of dubs mixed of tapes circulating in the Uk. He also wasnt the first to play many tunes that became his anthems. Maybe he was dealing with gussie clarke and getting music sent over i dunno but i cant put him in the same league musically as Coxsone who played music direct from Ja. and was musically more verstile amd didnt rinse out the same tunes over and over...kunte kinte/babylon/give us the power/very well/moulding etc.

Coxsone the greatest sound in England this dance with jah shaka must of been jam packed session I have to say that when the two sounds play together they are on there A game with hard hitting dub plates the respect they had for eachother as sound men was a respect that you heard within the music you know it was all about who was going to fade away but that never was going to happen when the two played against eachother but I believe coxsone always had the edge but shaka was not worried about that he had his own style which people' enjoyed but it's a debate that I would like to hear from the two sound men and from others but they kept eachother on there does one more thing they should be a dance with three or four sounds once a year so that the people who did not expirence those times can say they was there I'm a sound system historian follower I want to hear some more of the dances between these two playing together come on KZbin give the people what is being requested one love and unity also respect to lloydie coxsone and to shaka himself.

@@shaunjames5610 truth. Shaka fans can be musically blind..think englsih stepper and a heap of homemade mixes beats dubs direct from king tubbys and upsetter studios. Joke. Coxsone have the quality and presentation much better and no going straight to the version coz coxsone was about bussing artist. Mafiatone and fatman could school shaka musically as well as coxsone tho.

Good session, several cuts to Jah is my life- Johnny Clarke, and a 1980 dubplate to the '83 cut of what I would call Marshall"@1:22:00(jah shaka label) must be an early version as the horns are missing..I think the pt2 to "Marshall" on plastic and dubplate had a horn section. Shaka The Great...!!!

It's the less-often heard unreleased cuts of Ra Imru Asher 'Marshall', an early Shaka 12" release. The 12" was notorious for being mixed right down. This would be the 'better' dubplate everyone heard first times around, before rushing out to buy the 12", which we then all grumbled about. Shaka used to drop 1-2 other unreleased cuts more often, but they were not as good & I would venture the versions here are the most intense cuts of Marshall out there anywhere.
