I wasn't aware of him until the last 10 years but he is amazing. Such a quiet force. I love his comedic side like in Vicious.

I could listen to Derek Jacobi for hours on end shares stories of his life and career---it's so obvious how he has treasured every single moment. And it is so refreshing to hear an actor of his stature and caliber speak with such love and warmth and gratitude about his mentor, God, aka Sir Laurence Olivier. Congratulations and erll done, Sir Derek! ❤👏👏👏

"Learning, learning, learning." This is why he's one of the all time greats. Because any actor worth their salt will tell you, it's the learning from your betters, the inspiration from their guidance, that is truly the greatest gift and experience.

Such a joy to see the magnificent Anne Reid! A legend indeed. Sir Derek Jacobi is surely one of the finest actors of his or any other generation, he excels in everything he does. I had the immense privilege of seeing him play Hamlet back in the day and it was an utterly spellbinding performance. Such well deserved recognition. He really is a national treasure.

I've heard of Sir Derek for many years, of course, but I was never able to be a fan of the sorts of stages he reigned on. I re-discovered him first on the TV show 'Vicious" with Sir Ian - I personally thought it was a riot - very 'stagey' but a hoot to see these two play off each other. Very shortly afterwards, I discovered Last Tango which was probably mid-first season at this point and I thought his portrayal of Alan Buttershaw was sublime - I grew to love all of the characters, even the wonderful Anne Reid playing the usually awful Celia. I know for some, the fact he is only known by many for these later roles will disappoint, but I'd like to think Sir Derek is proud of that - to have that level of success and fame at the age he did in a whole new medium must be secretly satisfying for him. When you think of people like Dench, Smith, Stewart, McKellan, Jacobi, Mirren - it's incredible to think that we celebrate actors as they grow older, arguably almost all of those incredible talents have had more success in their 60's/70's and 80's than ever before. I don't think we will see the likes again and we should saviour them whilst we have them.

First thing I saw Derek Jacobi in was the BBC Production of Hamlet in 1972 and I have loved his performances ever since. I think he was born to play Hamlet, Cadfael and Claudius in I Claudius. However, outside of Shakespeare and classical acting, I think one of his greatest pieces of acting was as the Master in Doctor Who when his character suddenly realises he isn't the kindly Professor, but indeed the Master. No words were uttered just a couple of minutes of silent transformation. I was transfixed. It was a an absolute sublime piece of acting and I wish they could have kept him for a whole season. I would have watched no matter what. About bleeding time he got this award!!!

I totally agree on his Master, it was awesome for how little I saw of him. I was so angry they used him for just one time, because he was always a dream pick, because I knew he would smash it. My mum whom was lukewarm on Doctor Who loved him, and felt he was wasted by the show, and he deserved better. I saw him in plenty of roles and loved him in them. One of my favourites from the start.

A star with a character actor’s resume. And one who brings star-quality acting to even the smallest part he plays. He delivers the prologue in Kenneth Branagh’s “Henry V,” the last words of Professor Yana in “Doctor Who,” or the signature stammer of the title role of “I, Claudius” with equal energy and gravity.

For me. One day, I found a DVD copy of Cadfael 'The Devil's Novice', inside a charity shoppe. I absolutely fell in love. Then, online, I found 'Vicious'. An amazingly versatile actor and man. I would love to be able to meet Sir Derek. Just once. That same charity shoppe, I found a 3-DVD collection of Jeremy Brett's 'Sherlock Holmes', -the final season. Why is it that we have shite for actors here in the states?

In my mind of the best British actors up there with dame Judy dench, sir Ian mckellen when it comes to theatre work, maybe not as good as them but still very great along with the guy who played darth sidious in my option four of the best Shakespearean or theatre actors of our time but that is debatable since their are so many great actors with great performances and an good mention is sir Patrick Stewart all great British actors

Although all of these guys have compitition from people like sir Anthony Hopkins who is iconic and great in his own right, gary oldman who has been described by Hugh jackman as one of the best actors of all time along with Daniel day Lewis who is probable like top methods actor next to heath leathers joker, and one top notch top five actors ever, and harry redmane who has won a few top awards for being great also, oh yes and gary oldmand portrayed of winston Churchill was his best acting with Dracula even when he was drunk and wasn’t at his best
@ThomasBoyden-g5o Жыл бұрын
No body however does dialogue in front of the camera like Anthony Hopkins who is charismatic and very clever even when adding emotion and very physchological and smart, a guy that makes things believable like how he played mr ford and spoke to his fellow actors is powerful and clever and believable, or Hannibal’s lecter his best portrayal of a person of that nature is chilling and gets into your mind even though it’s over the top, and people don’t really act like that in reality but is still sinister like west world mr ford even when he’s not trying to act sinister is very clever in my mind, an honorary mention is Charles dance of game of thrones is another excellent film and stage actor worth mentioning as another who is up there with todays greats, he can play a villan, an intimidating one and could have played a character in James Bond like his boss or an assassin or dark rival henchman

Another is the guy who played the voice of scar who is one of the best British voice actors of all time in the lion king and fro lol from the hunchback of Norte dame, however none of those guys can compare to James earl jones or darth Vader, the most iconic voice actor of all time, other mentions of recognition are Christopher lee, of the hammer house of horrors series as Dracula again and Saruman, count cooks and he has the record for most sword fights in film history, maybe not as great or iconic as the others but still very iconic still and John hurt from alien and Harry Potter a more famous role of his, Sherlock Holmes or grand moth Tarkington was a famous actor and a personal friend of lee and obi wan kanobi or old Ben kanobi was also in a lot of films
