Written in 2012 for the World Saxophone Congress in St Andrews, Scotland, Sir Patrick has fast become one of the most widely performed works in the classical saxophone repertoire. Inspired by traditional Scottish/Irish music, Philippe Geiss has managed to showcase the virtuosity of the saxophone while keeping the upbeat and fun feeling found in this traditional music.

I'm guessing the version for quartet was written in 2012, because I'm pretty sure I heard the version for saxes and band prior to that...

rloomis3 yes the original version was for the congress but given the pieces success there are versions for almost every kind of saxophone ensemble !
