Sir Philip Green 'sad and very sorry' over BHS collapse

Sir Philip Green has exclusively told ITV News he is “sad and very sorry” for the hardship caused by the collapse of BHS.
Sir Philip, who has faced scathing criticism for his role in the collapse, said it had been a “horrible” time for him and his family, but vowed that his number one priority is to fix the situation.

guest Small correction needed: the £571 Million represents the BHS pension deficit, which is not, technically, stealing from Green’s part. On the other hand, the money he extracted in dividends from companies he bought, which is in the billions, could be more difficult to defend for him.

Phillip Green had a reputation as a retail supremo but in reality this was all PR and spin. He was a successful deal maker and asset stripper. He extracted hundreds of millions from the companies he ran and sent the money off to Monaco tax free. Every company he took over ended up going bust, even Topshop which was once the jewell in his crown. Imagine if he had got his hands on Marks & Spencer as he got very close to doing!

How Green has been treated is a disgrace. I feel sorry for the man. The press always have to have a good and bad guy. I have just read Oliver Shah's book. Give it time. Besides he has never been in litigation in his life. Furthermore, nothing has been proven at all. In a business of 20,000 people you will get a few disgruntled employees with an axe to grind, particularly in retail where most retail management and head office staff have ego's the size of elephants but without talent to match.
