Johnsons post survived over the other older one close by, by bringing useful stuff rather than "fooferall"

Sir William is my 5th great-grandfather. Thanks you for this historic video, but I'd like to add that Sir Williams son John didn't exactly "move" to Canada. After Sir Williams death, sir John became the new British Superintendent of Indian Affairs, which made him seem like too much of a threat to the new "American Patriots" looking to oust British rule, and the Johnson's were literally chased through the wilderness into Canada. Both John's sister and his infant child died during the journey.

Hopefully, someone will follow-up with the story of the family's fortunes during and after the "American" uprising against British authority south of Canada, and what they contributed to Canada's future.

Some years ago I purchased a CD of his writings from the New York State Historical Association for a fairly small sum. You might check to see if any remain.@@nicholasmckenna8614

Johnson's uncle did not understand what trade goods that the Native Americans and settlers wanted. Also, he wanted to transfer the English tenancy system to New York. Johnson was more successful because he understood settlers wanted to own not rent the land. In Ireland, people could only get ten-year leases on the land.

William Johnson had great instincts and also the intellect to understand what would work best.
