Hyperspace is a separate dimension in Star Wars, ships that travel through hyperspace as far as I know travel at their normal speed. However, to an outside observer it would seem that they travelled from one place to another at the speed of light.

@@shariqhasan6220 There's still a (small) window in real space after exiting (or as they enter) hyperspace where ships are decelerating (or accelerating) and can collide with other real space objects. Like the Rebel fleet at Endor (both interior POV and external shot), the Devastator/Rebel transport over Scarif, Hera's jump through a construction station, or any instance of a Holdo Manuever being performed. In other words, you definitely do not want to be where a moon-sized station is about to be ;) .

@@shariqhasan6220 lol.. none of what you said applies to Hyperspace. It is far beyond light speed. They do not indeed travel at their ''normal speed'' , they don't even interact with regular space until they leave hyperspace to our regular space.

@@officialmonarchmusic They are moving in formation with the DS, or, relative to one-another they are all flying in the same direction at the same speed when they exit hyperspace as when they enter it. Thus, the ships will reappear in realspace going the same speed they were when they first engaged their hyperdrives. It is the case in good Star Wars at least as well that hyperdrives can't immediately jump from a strong gravity well and cut out prematurely if the ship tries to jump into a gravity well, which is why it used to be the case that you'd always see ships appear somewhat far away from planets and still have to make significant maneuvers to reach them, or leave them and get to a place where they could jump to hyperspace.

There was a myriad of reasons _why_ the Holdo Maneuver was as successful as it was: • The sizes of the ships in question. the size of _the Raddus_ (an MC85 Star Cruiser that is 3,438.37 meters in length; 706.55 meters in width; 461.61 meters in height/depth) compared to _the Supremacy_ (13,239.68 meters length; 60,542.68 meters width; 3,975.35 meters in height/depth) . Based on those measurements, the FO capital ship has 3.85 times the length; 85.69 times the width; and 8.61 times the height/depth of the Resistance cruiser [and we haven’t even touch upon the measurements of the Death Star [the width/diameter is 160 kilometers (160,000 meters). The width of the Death Star is 2.64 times that of the Supremacy (not to mention 226.45 times that of the Raddus). And that’s just the basic specs of length/width/height-depth. • the experimental shielding of _the Raddus_ which factors both in its durability {could withstand the heavy bombardment made by the _Supremacy_ unlike the other ships in the fleet}, and range {far enough to cover the ships in the fleet enough until the smaller vessels ran out of fuel}. The armament of _the Supremacy_ consisted of heavy turbo lasers, anti ship missle batteries, heavy ion cannons, and tractor beam projectors. Seems rather impressive until you compare that to the Death Star’s armament (which, superlaser notwithstanding, consists of the following: * XX-9 heavy turbolaser battery batteries (12,000) * Turret-mounted twin light turbolaser batteries (15,000) * Super Blaster 920 laser cannons (10,000) * Light ion cannons (10,000) * Turret-mounted point-defense concussion missile launchers (20,000) * Turret-mounted twin heavy laser cannons (50,000) * Turret-mounted quad laser cannons (50,000) * Heavy tractor beam projectors (1,000) Good luck to _the Raddus_ to absorbing all of that (hence the main reason the Rebels used snubfighters to destroy both Death Stars, due to their small size and faster maneuverability) • Hux didn’t have the shields up on the Supremacy nor was his order for the fleet to destroy the _Raddus_ executed quickly enough for the FO to prevent it. Plus… _the Raddus_ was destroyed on impact, but the energy from that experimental shield kept going through hyper speed destroying _the Supremacy_ and the ships behind it. Even Finn disregarded that as a strategy against the Final Order as a “one in a million shot” concerning that effectiveness. Even if the Rebellion/Resistance weren’t so tight of resources, they wouldn’t be sacrificing anyone/resources just for a brief moment of vain heroism Assuming that somehow someone was able to procure a ship similar to _the Raddus_ as well as its modifications; and they weren’t instantly vaporized by the Death Star for whatever reason, and they attempted to pull off the maneuver. You know what would happen then? Look at what happened to the Malevolence when it also jumped into a planet… You guessed it: Total failure!! Best case scenario, you take off a chunk of the battle station (a small but noticeable chunk that “could” potentially knock some systems out of order, maybe experience something similar to an earthquake). Worst case, there’s barely anything more that some sort of dent (that could be fixed in due time) So next time you say something as foolish as “use a Holdo Maneuver on the Death Star”, do us both a favor: consider this comment and just don’t make that comment.

Man, those reentry from hyperspace calculations better be right on. Not much room to spare between that SSD and some of the ISDs. It would be a real mass displacement bummer to have an ISD plop on to another ship - could a person on a ship that reentered find himself, say, molecularized inside some solid structure of a ship they reentered onto/into? It might be a little weird to be walking down a hall with some arms or legs or heads hanging outside the walls.

The original sci fi writers, with actual B Sc degrees, where calked light speed what have you; could not do so through or into solar systems They always had to enter ‘normal’ space even taking months to reach earth. But they also didn’t go anti-science with aliens that grew from birth to 9 foot adult in 24 hours and suddenly stop the magic. When we kids in 60s and 70s our parents creating us in back seat of cars at drive inns the sci fi more ‘science’ than today. Never would have thought the day would come: 1: bookstore ban male authors and protagonists 2: NO science students watch read sci fi anymore. 😔
