Probably the best-looking paint job on an iron giant figure, the only complaint I have is the battery compartment and switch on the back, I really wish they could have found a way to hide that.

I have the original that comes with an S to put on his chest (like Superman) as well as a to-scale little Hogarth (the little kid that befriends the Iron Giant.) I've seen people use the tiny Fast and Furious house that can still be found in stores with the DS Iron Giant bc it scales nicely and makes Iron Giant look huge. Great video, Jared!

Kinda wished I’d waited for this one. I bought an iron giant figure that was over 3x the price of this figure, granted it had dicast, and I still have no regrets with buying it a few years ago, cause this is one of my favorite movies of all time so having a figure is a must for me. seeing a figure that looks this good at this price tho makes me wanna think more before I buy haha

​​@@sirdork730 I know you were not asking me, but yes. Also Hogarth is magnetised as well as Iron Giant's shoulder, so it's possible to recreate the scenes with Hogarth sitting on IG's his shoulder. And Superman's symbol is a nice accessory too on that version. Now I need to buy both versions I guess 😅

My only issue with this figure was that after getting it, I noticed how limited the head is when it comes to looking up and down. I was also sad about the below 90 degree bend on the knee, but I still think it's worth getting especially with that price.

I think the eyes are dim because over time , even if you don’t use them , the battery power dies still . So you should put in new batteries in there.

Older release is honestly better, comes with the S chest emblem as well as a to-scale Hogarth that magnetically attaches to his shoulder and the colour's animation accurate. This version is perfect for a Ready Player One shelf

It barely got any promotion either. Brad Bird tells a story of going around to cinemas while it was showing to find that they weren't displaying the posters and standees, apart from a single cinema he found them in where they were being displayed on the way OUT. Between that and the trailers which misrepresented the themes of the movie (I actually remember seeing it in the cinema as a 9 year old and liking it a lot, but being very surprised to find it was nothing like what the trailer suggested), the studio basically sank the film. Thankfully it became appreciated enough as a cult movie that it re-entered the cultural zeitgeist and is now as well respected as it should have been.

Animated films of that time period did REALLY bad because they were phasing out hand drawn animation. The new hype was CGI. Which is why this movie and others like Treasure Planet absolutely crashed in the box office. Everyone wanted more like toy story. And now that we have it, we want the old stuff back. Personally i want the diversity. Every animation style has its place

12:15, IMO, the shallow depth of field ruins the forced perspective and betrays this as miniature photography. Shooting with a higher f-stop, like f-16, or f-22 should bring the distant trees & lake into focus while keeping the foreground also in focus, giving the appearance of a much larger Iron Giant further away.
