I've just received a Z7 this afternoon and took it out playing at a jam tonight..........It's fekin Awesome! If you're into the Stingray sound, just buy one, no excuses! Customers were noticing a different sound (than Fender), and praising it. I'm about 9 hours in now and I'm convinced it's my new no1.
@neepheid2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the vid. I agree with much of what you've said, but I have a different experience with the knobs and the pots - I disliked the knobs so much that I ordered replacements the day I got the bass. The stock knobs are so lightweight and felt really cheap to me. Also I found that the detents felt different on each pot - the bass one is super clicky and defined, the blend one is so vague I can blow right past it without too much effort. The other two are somewhere between in terms of feel, but all different. It's not awful, and I'm a lot happier now that I've changed the knobs to heavier, more substantial ones - I'm going to file this under an "idosyncrasy" of my bass in particular. But ultimately I am nitpicking - I'm very happy with my Z7 - gigged it for the first time this weekend past and it was a beast!

I love the concept of this bass! The changes they have done to the StingRay design, the pickup configuration, the fact that it's active/passive and that it has a passive tone blend. And I love the looks as well and I trust in Sire's craftsmanship. But honestly I didn't really like what I heard most of the time. Probably because you really have to be very careful with the EQ, especially with its parametric mids. It's easy to mess up the sound with it so you really have to learn it. Maybe the wood choice also contributes to its aggressiveness, i. e. maybe the alder/rosewood versions are a bit more forgiving. I understand that this type of EQ is Sire's thing, but I think a 2-band EQ specifically voiced for these pickups, and maybe an additional coil-split option for the bridge pickup would have been more practical. But still, for the price it's amazing!
@joannalewis52792 ай бұрын
I agree with you totally. It sounds a lot like my old V9 in slap mode and it's too aggressive. Love the concept but the tone wasn't working for me.

Great review! This moment at 21:42 could almost be the whole review...what a great reaction! I am extremely interested in one of these. I don't see why this MM and neck J pickup configuration hasn't been way more widespread over over the years. Have you heard anything about the inconsistency in electronics on these? That's my biggest concern. There are videos about that being an issue.

Been eyeing this bass since it was announced....but the release date kept getting pushed back (from early spring till October)......one thing I noticed was initially in the online preorder sites ...the 4 strings were 3 to 1 headstock configuration.....then in the summer they went to a 4 one one side headstock. The fives remained 4 to one.....
@jmasno518 күн бұрын
This is a very cool bass. The mid-range sweep control is brilliant. The one thing that bothers me as I watch this video is, it looks to me that the strings are not centered on the fretboard. As I watched, it looks like there is a lot of space between the B string and the edge of the neck and hardly nothing between the G string and the edge of the fretboard. At all angles it looks that way. Maybe the nut or the bridge is off? Still a very nice bass at the price point but I would exchange it if my observations are correct.
