Update: I'm on the 200/250 edge on the spine chart. That bugged me. So, I bought a Ranch Fairy Orion kit w/ High FOC (not 'Extreme FOC'.).

I'm in the same boat. I'm look at about 520-539gr total & 200gr up front. But, I look at their spine chart before I tripped the trigger on the .300 Apollos. Thanks for the confirmation! 4 fletch is supposed to stabilize the arrow more. I'm now looking at the 250 spine Orion.

I am so torn. I usually shoot an Axis 300 spine 3 fletch AEE max stealth with 75g insert and 125g QAD Exodus. I think the total weight is like 533 or so. Like you said though, that is borderline under spined and it won't show up all the time, but that one time it does will ruin your day. I can't really go down to the 250/60 spine because it would sky rocket the weight (maybe that isn't bad though ?). The other option I was looking at is the Easton Sonic 6.0 (yes, I like Easton a lot lol)., The thing with this arrow is that it is much lower GPI than the Axis, so I can use the 250 spine with a 75g insert and a 125g Broadhead and I am coming in around 500g which is a nice, but the thing is the FOC is higher on the Sonic. As far as fletching goes, I have always found tighter groups with heavier broadheads and a 4 fletch. It's not scientific though, just anecdotal. What to do, what to do....I guess both :)

@@hayward57 last year when I went to a fixed blade broadhead for the first time I was already shooting a 4 fletch, so I didn’t notice much of a difference. I think all things equal, 4 smaller vanes is better than 3 large ones
@robolyn2 жыл бұрын
The only difference I see between the 3 and 4 fletch with my set up is from 70 to 100 yards. From 70 and back my group location changes. Very slightly. The only thing I can figure is that with 4 fletch the arrow gets up to its spin rate faster which would stabilize it quicker. With a slower spin up rate of the 3 fletch it still stabilizes but impact point is slightly different. Just my theory and for me I run the 4 fletch at 2.5 degree offset with a right helical. I like the idea that it stabilizes quicker but mostly with the extra vane I hit the weight and foc ratio I'm looking for with my arrow. I say try both and shoot what works for you 👍 There's videos of people hunting with 6 fletch and taking good game. It all depends on what works best for the individual and that individuals set up. Happy hunting ya'll!

@MatthewC1372 жыл бұрын
Screw Sirius. I recently bought 6 Orions to try out and they shot ok but weren't very straight at all. To make matters worse, those MFers sold me the 6 arrows with a 250 spine without telling me that they were about to discontinue the 250 and only offer 200 and 300. So they chose to make a one-time tiny profit at the expense of securing a new long term repeat customer. A-holes like that deserve to fail. I'll stick with Victory VAPs.

Awesome setup but I'm always looking to play with new stuff. I'm assume it's just a bad batch and I got a few other things to try yet but a bit disappointing tbh.

@@jeffcordero_ I've been doing some testing this spring/summer here in Colorado.. we've had a exceptionally windy year and I hunt northern CO/ southern WY. The 'super micros' (.166) with a four fletch buck the wind like nobodies business. It's incredible.. as you go down in diameter and up in FOC. We're talking 8-10'' horizontally in just a minor wind at 50yds for this area vs a 3 fletch 5mm, which I guess they call 'micro'. No one seems to test arrows in wind.. and that's a big thing in western hunting. I LOVE to bowhunt because I love the outdoors and consider it fair chase but I try to do everything I can to not injure or maim.

@@jeffcordero_ you're always dealing with wind out here.. mulie or elk into range and a 10mph sidewind kicks up. You want arrows that can maintain flight under windy conditions without having to think about hold.. I think it's much more important than drop over range here in the west. Everyone worries about drop and foc when wind is what will cause a miss. That's moot in a stand in the midwest/east stand hunting.. just something I have to/want to continually test in changing conditions.

Try the TAC Driver vanes, you can run 4 TAC vanes for the same weight as 3 Blazer vanes. Performance and durability of the TAC vanes are hands down better, with a flatter trajectory. Also a 250 spine of the Victory RIP TKO .204 diameter has an 8.9 GPI. I have a 31 inch draw, so I know what you are talking about with the High GPI arrows. A 250 spine RIP TKO with their 60 grain half out stainless insert in a 4 fletch TAC vane...its a great setup. Victory also has a brass weights that screw into the insert of you really wanted to play with your FOC. Good luck with your tinkering!

@@sticks7971 I’m not a big fan of the FMJ’s. They have a high GPI and I would rather use that weight in the front of the arrow. The sweet spot for FOC for me seems to be between 13.5-16%. With a 4 fletch, you can nock tune the arrow much easier, you have 4 adjustment positions. It also depends on the vane, I switched to TAC vanes and my 4 TAC vanes weigh the same as 3 blazer vanes. I ended up shooting 4 inches higher at 40 yards with the TAC vanes, flatter trajectory.

@williamworkman14682 жыл бұрын
@@jeffcordero_ if you use real turkey feathers they are naturally water resistant cause of the natural oils. they also fly better than your standard feather. if you really want to tinker, kill a turkey and save the primary wing feathers. its actually really easy to make your own fletching's. feathers are a pain at times but they stabilize your arrow incredibly fast. like about 5 yards less than vanes on a high speed camera.
