Thank you very much. I am glad you like it! I think the biggest leap is next to the deck saloon concept the 6 feet more of internal space the design offers. I guess has to be seen to be believed. If I am searching for new ideas on interior details for our Sirius 310 DS on boat shows and want something comparable I look at other 36-38 feet boats…

The close maneuvering demonstration was excellent, and to me it shows that a tiller would be the way to go since you can easily determine the direction of the thrust vectoring. With a wheel it would be more of a chore. These deck saloon layout (like a moody or catamarans) make a lot of sense too. Not classically beautiful perhaps, but what a practical and clever boat.

Hi Torsten, I have truly loved the way you show your boats. For an owner of a small 20 footer used to looking for upgrading your 31 is really very appealing. Your main point of innovation is the concept of cockpit and main interior living place on the same level. For Spanish sailers wanting to avoid sun in the summer and rain in the winter this is a very attractive feature. One suggestion from me would be if you allow me, a partly convertible roof in part of the interior upper level to be more airy for Mediterranean summers. Congratulations for your thorough study of sailing needs. Best regards

I think they are just perfect sizes for 2 people with occasional guests to spend a few weeks out on a few times a year and many weekends. These could easily be live aboard ships but my line of work and other life wants dont support that but I just can not get over how nice these are. I would make some personal modifications but with all of the layout options its just kind of amazing. Hi Foxwell family. If you like the concept of the Sirius 31 but the budget won't stretch, then consider a Jeanneau Espace 1000. They are rare but there are a few around. Although designed 37 years ago the 'new' Sirius copies the design very closely albeit in a smaller package. I bought and refitted one because there was nothing like them available. Until now of course.m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXLIm6Rvj8SAq7M

Very thorough of all the Sirus DS 31' + configurations. I love the DS layout and the 'pilothouse' setup for coastal cruising! To me a pilot house boat usually means an OLD boat (or a HUGE expensive boat)... or a tug boat. This looks modern and has great visibility - even of the sails from the internal (pilot house) helm! Someday! I think the 35' to 39' could be perfect for more prolonged cruising. Once I have my BTC and ETH in order!

A few questions. Is the cabin door water tight? What is it rated at for insurance purposes? Same question with the windows/portlights surrounding the cabin? Would this boat be considered as a blue water sailing vessel? Beautiful boat and well designed though!!!
@SiriusYachts3 жыл бұрын
Hi Phillip, Thank you for you kind words. The cabin door (in the companionway) isn't water tight like the door of a submarine, but it's as water tight as a conventional washboard system. She's RCD cat A and, properly prepared, there's no reason why she couldn't go off blue water cruising - although many owners opt for the 35DS and 40DS for world-cruising adventures. There is a crash box in the bow, with a watertight bulkhead between the anchor locker and forward cabin. The saloon windows are toughened safety glass, the hull windows and companionway door are balistics grade polycarbonate (they are literally bullet proof). We cover the safey of the deck saloon windows in an article on our website here: www.sirius-yachts.com/deck-saloon-yachts/ and we have just added an article about the hull windows here: www.sirius-yachts.com/how-strong-are-hull-windows/ which should reassure you about their strength. Safety is at the fore front of everything we do, whether it's the solid guardrails surrounding the deck or the extra thick solid laminate below the waterline. We build our yacht to last, and for that they need to be safe.

@SiriusYachts4 жыл бұрын
I love paper charts too. Therefor there is a huge chart box under the saloon table and they fit nicely on top of it. Held with two rubber straps …even in the worst of conditions. If you want to have a look or pencil something into it, you just step in (not down) and can still look out and see the buoys or landmarks you are trancing in the chart and see if the crew needs help. Than you are back out in 2 sec.
@SiriusYachts4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for raising the concern about the windows and portholes. Security and seaworthiness was the absolute first priority in the design spreadsheet. As we are building ocean-going-go-anywhere-cruisers since 49 years now, there has gone a lot of thought and calculation into every little detail. The saloon windows in particular are in use by us since 1988 on every deck saloon yacht we built and have circumnavigated the world a number of times, without any window failures. Recently a Sirius has been sailed all the way from Germany through the Atlantic, Panama Canal, through the Pacific, via Micronesia and Hawaii to Vancouver by their owners. Saloon windows are made from toughened security glass with an own certification for world-wide sailing (without the additional use of shutter blinds). They are up to 10mm thick and it is a fully glued in construction bolted trough an aluminium frame work with hundreds of 6mm bolts as well. The recess they are sitting in is a 25mm wide part of the GRP deck and the inner aluminium frame overlaps the same with on the inner side. The only way to destroy them, if you really try all you can, is using this very sharp and pointed hammers you find in busses and trains, but you will struggle to make an impact. Compared to windows in bigger boats, catamarans and commercial vessels this windows are very small ;-). As for testing the hull windows and door material: How about a 140kg body builder working on the portholes with a new axe? We made this test some 6 years ago and I will make sure to post the pictures on Facebook soon! They are made out of the same bulletproof material used for police and military cars...but ours is 12mm!

Wow. This is the best presentation i have seen

Wow, that`s a great compliment! Thank you very much! I just love what I do. I am glad you can notice this. If you on top of this be in a position to have it built in the exact way I would do it for myself...and work for a company with 49 years of tradition and experience in doing just that and owners to bring in so many ideas and experiences ...something like this could be the result

I live on a neel 51 trimaran and I'm blown away by how well thought out these boats are. If I were a monohull guy this is where I'd go. The high standard of the presentation is commensurate with the shipyards implementation of boat building. Please start building performance multihulls

Wow, this from an Neel 51 owner is a huge compliment! Thanks a lot! As much as I like multihulls for some abilities, Sirius Deck saloon yachts are also about getting everything you need on as little outside size necessary ;-) ...building boats as solid as possible is also “not that” compatible with performance light weight constructions... but I would have a lot of ideas for nice interior solutions, given the square meters a multihull has to offer ;-)

What a well conceived and made sailbot. I sail (as crew) a 10 years old double keel RM, which I think is a great sailboat too, but this small Sirius impresses me. I really would like to sail her and maybe own her, if I could. Very good presentation too, well made, thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot! Glad you like it! RMs are great and very dedicated boats as well! hope to be able to welcome you on board personally once! About the presentation: it`s just good fun and easy being enthusiastic about the boat ...and lucky having with Graham Snook, one of the best photographers on board, helps even more ;-)

Why more boats aren’t deck salon I don’t understand. to be able to get out of the weather while on passage seems obvious to me. Great boat, great presentation. 👏

Lovely boat with fantastic use of space. Great demonstration of how the big rudder and position of the prop gives manoeuvrability to either side using propwash. I can do propwalk - but only to one side of course. I will definitely be having a look at the Southampton show.

I am 1,85m tall but you won’t have by trouble if you are 1,90m either. Bed length are 2,05m min. Height in the saloon is 1,98m with even higher areas

Very clever design solutions. Deck salon with steering wheel inside just like most motor-sailing boats. This is great for comfort and safety and you have a sauna to 😃 I really like your boat.

Glad you like it! There had been a design competition and a lot of owners input in the lines at the beginning. That was an exciting time…short nights, thought...Than there has gone a lot of thought and work in the design, but behind this stands a big team who all work with love and passion and thousands of owners ideas. Lots of credit to them as well!
