I love how Jamie Lee encourages & uplifts others, in an industry that sometimes gravitates toward pettiness and drama. It doesn't seem to be an act she puts on - this is genuinely who she really is. Jamie was also one of the FEW people who had nothing but nice things to say about her Freaky Friday co-star, Lindsay Lohan, in the past - before the Netflix comeback era, before it became trendy to root for her - when the press and industry had written her off. They were not overlooked because of their race. Hollywood is very competitive, and a movie either connects with an audience or it doesn't. Lucy Liu had no problem building up a career over the past 25 years. And Bruce Lee remains a lasting cultural icon like Marilyn Monroe and Elvis.

@@jedijones that's the thing tho, he wasn't given the proper opportunities because no one is writing asian characters, so there just hasn't been a chance for the movie that hasn't been written to connect with an audience. bruce lee & lucy liu are exceptions, but even then, it feels like nbeither of them properly ever got their due, probably due to some implicit bias. there are so many talented asian actors that never got a chance in hollywood: gong li, tang wei, tony leung, song kang-ho, etc etc. even when oscars give a movie best picture, they don't nominate any of the actors (re: parasite, slumdog millionaire). and yeoh, quan, hong are super proflific and are up for a fucking oscar, so it's not even like they've never been talented, they were just never given prestige roles.

Just to add, Jamie Lee Curtis gave an amazing tribute to 93 year old James Hong when he finally received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last March. So much well deserved accolades to all the main actors in EEAAO who are all nominated for Oscars! How incredible is that?! But so happy James Hong received his recognition & star for his lifetime achievements in film & TV, and still so funny, active and youthful! He knows when to stay out of the way, but when it's his moment to speak and command a scene, he absolutely owns it, he has the rizz of Anthony Hopkins or Malcolm McDowell, I can't keep my eyes off them in any scene they're in. There's several scenes from the film that he's in burned into my memory, and it's just him, even in his interviews when he speaks, he owns it. Dude is a legend.

i will never forgive hollywood's unwillingness to cast asian actors and lack of opportunities for asians for making ke huy quan insecure about his acting. he has a gift and we were denied of so many legendary performances because of it. i'm sure, like he's mentioned, hearing rejection after rejection must've ruined his confidence as an actor, and i hope this award season proves to him that he's spectacular.

Absolutely! Until he spoke about it, I never realized what had happened to him. I remember seeing him, for the first time in ages, doing the online Goonies reunion in 2020. And he jumped out as such an amazing personality, as well as being super sweet, kind, funny, and genuine (and looking incredible too, I should add!). When you think about those two huge roles he had in 1984 - how much he LEAPED off of the screen. He was a young star in the making. To think of all of the roles and projects given to his young peers - If he wasn't Asian, I believe he would have had project after project offered to him. It's insane. I was so happy when I learned he was in this movie, when it was launching. And THEN... so happy and amazed when seeing his performance. What an incredible performance and, seemingly, and even greater person. ❤

Having Michelle getting the role instead of Jacky, having a story started of as a crazy maximalist movie evolve to a touching story of family and kindness. Having the most fitting cast of Ke Huy Quan playing a soft kind husband and also a awesome strong fighter. Having the movie held back during the devastating pandemic, after the world has gone through the confusing and depressing time. The movie finally served to us as a reminder and encouragement - Please be kind to each other, especially in this confusing time. How this movie evolve creatively and organically from conception to birth is a miracle!

Ke is a great and underrated actor. He performs with so much vulnerability, and he has a very powerful presence on screen at the same time. I have no idea why he hasn't had much success until now.

Because Ke came of age before the notion of color blind casting and before Hollywood believed that Asian casts could be economically successful. He's been quite open in interviews and his award acceptance speeches about why he stopped acting & how watching Crazy Rich Asians led him to believe he could return to acting. He also revealed that, even though he had several auditions after he filmed eeaao, it wasn't until after the film came out that he started booking jobs. Ke has a really special, unique energy about him like Jack Black or Owen Wilson do & I hope his performance in eeaao inspires people to develop projects with him in mind like they do for JB & OW.

She frequently reaches for his hand or just to touch him. That is a true soul mate and I love that she found that. I also teared up watching this. But also have emotions with the whole "Why have I not seen Ke acting for this long?" Ke was one of my childhood acting heroes on the screen. Heck, and while I completely recognize the talent of the cast, seeing Ke show up in front of a camera again was one of my biggest draws to make sure I HAD to see this movie. Again, not the only reason, but seeing him return was something I've waited so long...so long for. Keep going Ke. I've been a big fan of yours since the 80s. Ke has got to be one of the genuine and nicest guys in movies ever. If there is any justice, he will be in any project he wants for the rest of his life. I'd watch anything if he's in it.

I've always loved Jaime Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan and since I've seen the movie. I've been devouring every interview. Thank you for making me feel better. I'm going through a really awful time right now I have HIV and my body is changing and giving up on me. All of these actors including Stephanie and freaking Michaelle Yeoh. Thank you for making me shed tears of hope. I probably will never make it here but that's the beautiful thing about movies. I know that in other universes. I was unstoppable and I am healthy and happy. I'm just sorry I'm in this one. Thank you. I'm at peace with it.

The Oscars show had such a good vibe this year, and it had a lot to do with the underdogs and the second chances, and people who were truly grateful to be even nominated. Maybe it was the Academy trying to get the bad taste of last year's ceremony off it's mouth. There may have been nominees that put in better performances, but it was nice to see Jamie and Ke win. The voters did the right thing. The Academy brought a much needed feel-good and Hollywood-ending spirit to the show.
