@Iisho2 жыл бұрын
I would like to say, having a concrete art style is not necessary and honestly I find it quite restrictive. IMO, I think it's better to develop your "quirks"" in your art rather than a definite style. Example, Laovaan is exploring different styles here yet you can still tell it's his art. Laovaan has his own quirks that makes his work recognizable as his. These quirks will form over time as you gain more experience, they likely won't result in a finite decision. The main thing is, let yourself explore. Art is a creative outlet and you shouldn't limit yourself in any way. I understand wanting to develop a style unique to you, but if it's getting you down than personally I wouldn't think it's something you should worry about. Sometimes it's nice to find a piece of artwork and think "I want to draw something like that" and go draw it, locking yourself into a style would make that quite restrictive.
@FandomTOBY2 жыл бұрын
With time you will notice and or learn that no artist has just a single art style (unless they really try or don't seek influence.) like the person that commented weeks ago said "every artist has their quirks that makes their art recognizable" to roughly quote them Now when it comes to art style there isn't just one especially when it comes to manga and anime (not always obviously, but usually. Comedy Manga and Anime for example) The normal "main" style and then something like Chibi or a more cutesy style are often switched back and worth in manga and anime depending on the situation and the general the story. So really...you could draw in 3 different styles and they could either all be your main or maybe you have 2 main ones and a more "doodle" kind of style or maybe you only have 1 main one and a doodle style and so on etc etc I kinda just have a main style and a sort of chibi one I doodle in and draw lil comics with TRADITIONALLY When it comes to digital art I usually have a more semi-realism style coloring and rendering wise (Sort of like Arcane I suppose but more smooth looking) And I def know the struggle of not being happy with your own art and comparing yourself to others and thinking "I wanna draw like that..." I've been there...and I still come back to that place every so often. So when you feel like "this looks nothing like I had in my mind" just... doodle in a random different style and maybe you'll develop that one further to make your characters say stuff about your other drawings...it's fun!
@lrdalucardart2 жыл бұрын
Style is not something you decide to have, is something you build over the course of your art career, it can take decades to build one. You can decide a Style Direction (anime style, comic style, Disney stile, etc), but your own personal style... that will take some time to be fully fleshed out. I have been drawing for almost 2 decades and I still don't have one.
@noexcusesjustpudding2 жыл бұрын
I like the tokyo revengers style the most, your character looks like he'd fit right in with the style you drew him in.
@baizhuwaitingroom70572 жыл бұрын
My problem is that, although I do have an art style, and technically know what goes into developing one and know how to apply those techniques if I wanted to change, whenever I try to move on and try something else, or even allow myself to just experiment for fun and learn, I feel like I'm abandoning part of my established identity, which sounds really stupid, but. Somehow I became so attached to the art style I have now, it's difficult to try out new things even if I'm sick of the way I draw things and feel like it partially holds me back from improving.
@Peayou...2 жыл бұрын
I found out that I don't have to abandon my style though, I just needed to work on more realism first then once I improved, I could go back if I still liked my style. Also if you take a break from your style you won't forget how to do that style AT ALL. Chances are you will just gain a better understanding of how to improve it to your liking or speed up the process after practice.
@FandomTOBY2 жыл бұрын
I've said this in a different comment but: You can have more than just 1 style! If you feel like trying something else like idk...rubberhose cartoon style instead of realism, anime or any other mixture of styles you can. You're not abandoning anything at all. You don't have to replace anything from your "main style" maybe the new style you tried out has some things you'd really love in your main style and so you can just put that in. I do that all the time when I get sick of the way something looks in my art. Today I looked up art tutorials just to see how other people draw eyes and hands. I've been drawing for 14-ish years now so I do know how to draw most things at least human wise I've been looking up tutorials today (and got hooked on this guy because my art style has a few similar things going on plus he's also German like me lol and I just think that's neat) I decided to change up the way I structure the sketch for hands. Simply because I was unhappy with how inconsistent my hands always turned out after I've had some bad art block haunting my ass. Plus the knuckles were always really sharp (the knuckle on the thumb especially) and I started to hate that "quirk" of mine...so I just changed it Anyway, sorry for the rambling 😅
@baizhuwaitingroom70572 жыл бұрын
@@Peayou... yeah that's true, it just gives me a sense of anxiety and wrongness when I do something else and it isn't to my liking lol. After I sort of deliberately took direction and formed my main art style a few years ago by doing master studies, it started changing and evolving on its own over time, and that's not really something I had control over either, but it was such a slow and gradual change it was hardly noticeable unless I looked back at my old work. rationally it's all about leaving comfort zone and not getting too attached, but sometimes it's easier said than done 🤧
@baizhuwaitingroom70572 жыл бұрын
@@FandomTOBY yes, you're right and I know all of it, but the lizard part of my brain can't help feeling the way it does lol. having multiple art styles is definitely advantageous since different subjects and different projects might require a different approach, if not for the artistic value itself, then out of pragmatism. that's something I'm trying to work on, cause getting out of your comfort zone is painful, but the way it's limiting you is overall way worse in the end. on top of everything, simple art styles are cute and practical from the standpoint of storyboarding and animating, but truth be told, I do find joy in rendering and making things more complex too. for me it's all about finding my sense of identity and familiarity in each variant of my style, and until figuring it out, it's just bound to feel off and awkward at times. but recently I worked out how I like to paint and choose better colours and although it's different, I grew comfortable with it, so all the pain was worth it! also, since you mentioned you're German, let me just tell you I absolutely love German romanticism lol

This was really helpful because I sometimes struggle with what to focus on when doing art studies. I have an art style already, but I don't really like it that much anymore. I understand anatomy and fundamentals at least, but muscle memory is really strong within me and whenever I try to change the way I draw to a way I might like more, I always end up doing it the way I'm comfortable with.
