You did it thoroughly. I wish you did another video covering outside environment. That would be perfect.

Thank you. Before I purchased the Sirui 1.25, I watched your videos to help decide if it would pair well with the Helios 40-2. I'm quite happy with the results. Without customization, this vintage lens was impossible to use with a focus motor, but the Sirui 1.25 fixed that problem.

Yes, it helps! Considering this adapter with my vintage lenses. Thank you. 🙂

Hey Neil - would love some more footage with the helios and the adapter - i'm on the fence between getting the adapter for my helios and various lenses or I could get the 35mm apsc and use it in crop mode. I've seen some amazing results from the 35mm so i'm torn!

I will at some point in the nearish future but I have a couple of different videos coming and I will then be doing a video with the Helios but I have a few projects to go first. What camera are you using? I have used the Helios with both full frame and APSP it’s works great on both. The Sirui adapter works well in the lens just set it to infinity and do the focusing with the adapter. If you are using a full frame camera I would use the Helios as you will get some great images and the adapter works well with it, IMHO.

@@GMTNeil I use a Sony a7iv.. I plan to use the adapter on the sigma 24-70 art, Helios 44 and 35mm and I have a few other vintage lenses to use with it. I’d be interested to see a 135mm I have with the adapter. The 35mm does look a lot sharper from the videos I have seen compared to the adapter.. just more consistent results. I think clear image zoom instead of crop mode seems to help a bit with sharpness and you can sometimes get away with a lesser crop factor.

Check out @gawx videos. The most recent entirely filmed with the 35mm and some diopters, really has made me think twice 😅
@GMTNeil2 жыл бұрын
I found it sharpest between 35 and 70mm, it also works well on my sigma 28-70 f2.8 though anything under 30mm you will see the edges of the lens as well as a vignette. Also I will add it’s really heavy I recommend some lens support if you can. As I am using a A7IV myself anything in the video is on APSC mode. To be honest I would just use crop mode rather than clear image zoom it’s easier. If you have any questions please ask and I will be doing a Helios video. I will try and turn that around as quick as I can (life has a habit of keeping me busy).

@@GMTNeil thanks for the replies man! Wish I could demo one haha. It’s great you’re in London as well so the examples are relatable. Yeah it seems around 30mm is the limit - but this is why clear image might be better.. it is sharper than crop mode and you can sometimes get away 1.2-1.3x crop instead of 1.5x so you get a little bit more width.. worth a try. Cheers! I’m keen to see more of your Helios and sigma examples and yep I have definitely thought about the lens support issue for the zoom lens in particular :)

This is really great work, man! You're basically the only one on youtube reviewing this attachment thoroughly! I REALLY want to try this adapter on my full-frame 35mm f0.95 from Laowa. I know it would probably be soft, but I like a softer vintage look. I can't believe it covers 35mm so well! Do you think it would be usable at f0.95?
@GMTNeil2 жыл бұрын
I think it will be soft as you will be adding another layer with the adapter.. The biggest problem you might have is focus as it will be super thin slice of a focal plane you will get in focus, but when you do i think it will give a great effect. I personally wouldn't film anything with a lot of movement with that set up as it would be tough to get focus.
@kylehessling26792 жыл бұрын
@@GMTNeil Yeah, I'm definitely thinking more for fixed-focus scenarios. More than anything, I like composing my subject further away from the camera while retaining the separation of faster lenses. Your shots look Really good with the 35mm takumar! With this adapter, I think you want to shoot as wide as possible like 35mm so that you don't zoom in on the adapters imperfections. But the 85mm shots look surprisingly good too

Which step down ring did u use? 82-77 did not work. Is rear really 82mm?
@GMTNeil Жыл бұрын
82 step down to 72 with an additional 67 to 72. And the rear is 82 on the anamorphic. It works fine with with step up rings I even use a 58-72 and a 72 to 82 with my Samyang v-af lens as that only has a 58mm thread.
