The weird numbers on the 4k animation render, this could be due to some background task running, or a number of things, including, maybe just user error. However, it's possible that there is some issue with the 5090, the card itself or in software, drivers etc.
@hardwire666too3 күн бұрын
The Blender results could be a problem with Blender, or the driver. Perhaps run DDU between tests to ensure the old drivers are flushed? Could also be a CPU/PCI-E bottleneck as I know that has been showing up in gaming results. However I don't think it's all that likely by any means. But possible so i mention it. I know some people experienced a few problems with the 4090 in Blender when the 4090 released, but I don't know what the extent of those issues were. This video also is a perfect example of why I say the Blender benchmarks are for gamers and mostly meaningless for artists. Good stuff as always. Also the bit on simulations, you mentioned Blender. Blender actually only does simulation on the CPU, and is very poorly multi-threaded.

I should have been more clear, it's a combo of power and vram, the 4090 handles the calculations much better than the 3090, which is the main difference between those two. But the 5090 has more room to breathe when upscaling due to the increased memory pool so in addition to its speed boost, there's a bit more flexibility in the upscaling. So it sounds like the big jumps we got between the 20 to 30 series and then the 30 to 40 series is gone this time around. We're back to the every other generation video card investement pattern. If someone is going from the 30 series to the 50 then it's a nice move forward. I'm thinking the 60 series is where we will see a double in performance from the 40 series. And we'll see how many software packages take advantage of the new features the 50 series introduced by time the 60 series comes around. I think in fairness, even the CPU releases recently have been lackluster. We'll see what the next two to two and a half years brings us. 30 and 40 series were really impressive moves forward so it's hard to top those releases.

Vpaths explained from Google AI: Benchmark score: The final score in a V-Ray Benchmark test is often expressed as "vpaths" when using a GPU, allowing you to compare the rendering performance of different GPUs based on their path tracing capabilities. Comparison with other metrics: While "vsamples" is another metric used in the benchmark for CPU rendering, "vpaths" is specific to GPU rendering. Importance for complex scenes: Higher vpath scores signify better performance in scenes with lots of reflections, refractions, and indirect lighting, where many ray tracing paths are needed to accurately simulate the light behavior.

You can't asses rendering performance with lots of quick rendering animation frames. It will come out mostly the same among the those cards. If you want to benchmark a top tier card like this in Blender you probably need to use an actually heavy scene, no offense but there's very little happening in that animation you showed. Also png can often be much slower to save than something like EXR. If you're on 4.1 and above you should NOT be using Optix denoising in either viewport or render. Openimage on the GPU is significantly faster (and better).

Thanks for some awesome creative videos! As someone who uses Blender a lot lately, it'll be nice to test it hopefully soon if I can get a card (though the standard normal suite of tests is now woefully too fast so will have to load some heavier scenes). Looks like a solid upgrade for creators even if gaming uplift is decent, too!

I get the feeling the power of the 5090 is going to be revealed over time, as technologies are revealed and popularized, and we're not necessarily seeing what it's really capable of yet....so it's not looking super insanely powerful compared to the 4090 just yet, but when we shift into higher gear, it will really start to pull away. Not that I own one or will ever likely own one lol

I'm coming from a 2070 and can't wait to finally update to the 50xx series. This is very helpful, thanks, Wade!

Good if you need 32gb vram.

Uhh,,, so if the gpu speed and quality keeps going up AND the compute power keeps going up for the programs...., so how can you say its 2x improvement on any new gpu when the program also wants more compute....., I edit with resolve and see that my rtx 3090 doesn't work as well with version 19 anymore ....

What were the light and camera samples you used to render on Arnold GPU?
@markbremerkamp66142 күн бұрын
just a note with resolve you are mixing encoders, so that is not a good comparison. But thanks good info!

I realized that when I was finally doing the 3090 but at that point having to power down and swap the other cards back in again just for the one test was too much for me 😅 I figured I’d just share what I had haha

I have always been passionate about 3D since the DOS era, but I never managed to connect properly with modeling and animation. So, I would like to know where to start correctly, as I have some resistance to learning.

The test at 2:23 is almost certainly bottlenecked by the speed of saving/exporting the PNG/EXR's. PNGs in particular can be slow to save, depending on the compression algorithm used. I find TIFFs with LZW to save/export faster in general. I imagine if you exported that test to a faster-saving image format, or to a video format like ProRes, the times would come down, and you'd see a difference between the 5090 and 4090.

Doesn’t the processor, i generation and ram of the cpu also help with this tests

I'm glad someone did a video about the production uses of the cards. I love games, but I also love having more productivity! Thanks for this. Keep up the good work Also some of the issues could be support issues. Like they are having driver compatibility issues with certain programs.

Thank you for your efforts, I'm currently using Blender and your video is timely ..I'm getting ready to build a PC. I do have a request regarding building a new system. I mainly create high-resolution prints that incorporate multiple 4K image textures. Can you recommend a resource for helping me to build a proper system...for Blender. Thank you again!
