I like that Siskel is a tightass. He's just being honest. And I agree with his opinions a majority of the time. Plus, it just gave Ebert an easy in to give him a quick jab everytime he was being too stiff. This was great television.

They were both fantastic. Siskel was a total curmudgeon.

Gene accuses Roger of being soft this week (as he often did around Christmastime), but I think it's actually Siskel who is a bit too harsh this time. "Richie RIch" and "The Jungle Book" are decent, above-average family films that hit all of their intended marks.
@ricardocantoral76723 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call Richie Rich above average. Pretty standard kids movie.

I generally agree with Siskel here, got to be more critical. Of the films Roger recommended few are worth watching today. Jungle Book is decent as a grittier kids adventure film that lands it's moderate ambitions, so I would give that a thumbs up.

Yes, Siskel misspoke likely because The Verdict was the better performance. But Newman wasn't going to beat Kingsley for Gandhi that year.

I think Gene comes up with reasons to dislike a movie out of thin air whereas Roger is usually more rational about his dislike of something. Gene gave a thumbs down for Taxi Driver in 1976 due to the violence.

It's actually been done. A couple of rappers had full franchise restaurants in their homes. I think one was Eminem had a Taco Bell and another a McDonald's. It can be done but you have to get a license and there is things like OSHA and health departments and employment dept. you have to deal with. A lot more trouble than it's worth to eat lunch with your pals every now and then.

Hated Richie Rich: the character AND the movie. Every cartoon was the same: Kids: "Oh, we've lost our [fill in the blank]!" Richie: "Well, here you go! A [fill in the blank] made of gold/silver/diamond!" Today, he'd lose "friends" faster than Casper does. But rich boys don't need friends. He has clients. 🙄
