Siskel and Ebert - Rosewood review (1997)

Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert both give this 1997 American historical drama film (directed by John Singleton and starring Jon Voight and Ving Rhames) a Thumb Up.

I am glad they praised it it did scare lot of people it was meant to shock and scare you its real it happened

Very well done film. I obviously wasn't there and I know it is about true events, but it is sometimes hard to believe that virtually EVERY white person in this town agreed with the mob racist mentality and approved of lynching. On the other hand I'm white and a northerner, so I could absolutely be wrong. Mob mentalities never leave much good in their wake. Be it racism from either side or idiots rioting in the stands at sporting events against each other team's fans. I know that pales in comparison with abject hatred for someone who looks different, but it is evil just the same.You can put today's political landscape in a similar proximity. Too much hate.

True, I’m sure not all the white people in town shared the same views as the mob, but I assure you, they did nothing to stop it. Even today, most people see bad things happening, and do nothing about it. If you’ve seen this movie, many of the men in the mob knew that white lady lied about what happen to her, because they knew her husband was the one abusing her AND STILL went through with the massacre.

Not Every white person Jon Voights based on a real life man and he despite his flaws was not gonna join them infact he helped a lot of women and kids get on a train out of town he tried to save lives and reason with them idiots and there was a neighboring town that refused to join the mob but mostly yeah t hat husband got his buddies together all racist I mean Fannie did lie but that does not absolve them from their sins and crimes and racist views this was 1923 as I said New Years Day 1923 and it lasted days they counted 8 black people and 3 white dead but the witnesses who survived say the black toll was higher we may never know Fanny yes her real name LOL did die in early to mid 2022 I hope she suffered she got to live a long life with her kids and grndkids when her lies cost so many innocent lives even at age 12 when I saw this when it premeired on HBO I wanted to beat her ass we also have to consider the town was largely black and there were few whites that created Jealousy I guess that was what i read anyways the whites could not stand that the black folk were so successful! 🥹that and Emmit Till made me almost ashamed to be a white girl though I saw people not color still do now as a 37 year old woman I know I am not racist or prejudice against anyone I treat people how they treat me Jesus did not see color nor do I and i still wanna cry when Esther Rolle as Sarah gets shot specially in front of the kids

It's only hard to believe that whites would blindly participate in race mob lynchings (in the north OR south) if you are unaware of unvarnished AmeriKKKan history. This happened, in the south AND the north, CONTINUOUSLY; peruse Michael D'Orso's "Like Judgement Day", on which the film "Rosewood" got its inspiration.
